With deep love and gratitude to God for her life, we share that Mercedes Cortes Huertas went to be in the presence of the Lord on January 17, 2026, at the age of 78 years old, in Plano, Texas.
Mercedes Cortes Huertas was born on February 28, 1947, in Icononzo, Tolima, Colombia, daughter of Daniel Cortes and Clementina Huertas.
Throughout her life, she was distinguished by her deep love for her family, her steadfast faith in God, and her spirit of service. She was an unconditional source of support for her loved onesand friends, an admirable wife, and a devoted mother who always helped her children, prayedfor them, and encouraged them to grow.
She was known for being a joyful and playful woman; she loved dancing, enjoying celebrations, and celebrating life. She was a woman of vision who consistently helped her children see beyond what they believed possible and discover who they could become. She cherished every moment spent with family and proudly kept her Colombian roots close to her heart.
Mercedes Cortes Huertas was happily married and shared her life with José Gustavo Torres.
Her legacy lives on through her children, who will remember her with deep love: Alexandra Rivera, German Augusto, and Jean Carlos Torres; her son-in-law Eugenio F. Rivera; her daughter-in-law Suleyma Torres; her grandchildren Ali Agudelo, Leila Agudelo, Jean Carlito Torres, German Andrés Torres, Sarita Rivera, Danella and Kayse Torres; her great-grandchildren Hadassa and Penelope Agudelo, Josué and Noah Torres; and her relatives Rosalba, Marina, Norma, Gina, Myriam, Reynel, Saul, José, Manuel, and Esteban, who will always remember her with affection
and gratitude.
Mercedes Cortes Huertas especially enjoyed spending time in nature, visiting rivers and beaches, and spending time playing parchis. She dedicated many years of her life to working in various jobs, but the work she loved most was being a nanny, a role she fulfilled with love and dedication. The families she worked with always spoke very highly of her and recommended her widely for her commitment and warmth. She left an indelible mark on the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing her.
We celebrate her life with hope, holding fast to God's promises, as He tells us:
"I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die." -John 11:25
A Visitation will take place on Friday January 30th, 2026, at 1pm and Funeral services at 2pm in the Memorial Chapel at Restland Funeral Home.

Con profundo amor y gratitud a Dios por su vida, compartimos que Mercedes Cortes Huertas , partió a la presencia del Señor el dia 17 de enero de 2026, a la edad de 78 años, en Plano, TX.
Mercedes Cortes Huertas nació el 28 de febrero de 1947 en Icononzo-Tolima en Colombia, hijade Daniel Cortes y Clementina Huertas.
A lo largo de su vida, se distinguió por su profundo amor por su familia, su firme fe en Dios y su espíritu de servicio. Fue un apoyo incondicional para sus seres queridos y sus amigos, una esposa admirable y una madre dedicada que siempre ayudó a sus hijos, oró por ellos y los impulsó a crecer.
Se caracterizaba por ser una mujer alegre y jocosa; le gustaba bailar, disfrutar de las fiestas y celebrar la vida. Fue una mujer de visión, que siempre ayudó a sus hijos a ver más allá de lo que creían posible y a descubrir quiénes podían llegar a ser. Disfrutaba al máximo cada momento en familia y llevaba siempre presente, con orgullo, sus raíces colombianas.
Mercedes Cortes Huertas estaba felizmente casada y compartió su vida con José Gustavo Torres. Su legado será recordado con profundo amor por sus hijos Alexandra Rivera, German Augusto y Jean Carlos Torres. Su yerno Eugenio F. Rivera. Su nuera Suleyma Torres. Sus nietos: Ali Agudelo, Leila Agudelo, Jean Carlito Torres, German Andrés Torres, Sarita Rivera, Danella Y Kayse Torres; sus bisnietos Hadassa y Penelope Agudelo, Josué y Noah Torres. Sus familiares Rosalba, Marina, Norma, Gina, Myriam, Reynel, Saul, José, Manuel y Esteban quienes la recordarán siempre con cariño y gratitud.
Mercedes Cortes Huertas disfrutaba especialmente de pasear en la naturaleza, visitar ríos y playas, y jugar parques. Dedicó muchos años de su vida a trabajar en diferentes empleos, pero el que más le gustaba era trabajar como niñera, labor que desempeñó con amor y entrega. Las familias con las que trabajó siempre hablaron muy bien de ella, recomendándola ampliamente por su compromiso y calidez humana. Dejó una huella imborrable en la vida de todos quienes tuvimos el privilegio de conocerla.
Celebramos su vida con esperanza, aferrados a las promesas de Dios, quien nos dice:
"Yo soy la resurrección y la vida; el que cree en mi, aunque esté muerto, vivirá." Juan 11:25
Se llevará a cabo una visita el viernes 30 de enero de 2026 a la 1 p.m. y los servicios fúnebres a las 2 p.m. en la Capilla Memorial de Restland Funeral Home.
