MEREDITH MARSTON's Obituary
MARSTON, Meredith 1932 – 2018 Meredith Stigler Marston went to be with her Lord and Savior on Friday, March 30, 2018. Meredith was born and raised in the small cotton farming town of Drew, Mississippi. In 1950, as a freshman at Millsaps College in Jackson, she joined the Kappa Delta Sorority, a sisterhood she would support and cherish throughout her life. After transferring to the University of Mississippi, Meredith met the love of her life, Ralph Marston, and they were married in 1954. The couple were blessed with two boys and in 1959 the family settled in Richardson, where Meredith and Ralph lived out their full and joyful lives together. In the early 1960s, Meredith worked as director of the preschool at First Baptist Church in Richardson. She also worked for many years as the office manager for Ralph’s business. She had a great passion for helping others and did so in many different volunteer positions over the years. Meredith was a charter member of the Richardson-Plano Kappa Delta Alumnae Chapter and played a key role in the growth and success of the group, encouraging and supporting many other members into leadership positions. In the early 1990s, Meredith was invited to serve the national Kappa Delta organization as Alumnae Province President, then as Regional Alumnae Director for the western US, and finally as national Director of Philanthropy, working with alumnae and collegians to support the sorority’s many charitable endeavors. She was instrumental in the founding of the Kappa Delta chapter at Texas A&M University, and later had the joy of participating in her granddaughter’s initiation into that chapter. For many years, Meredith also volunteered her time to assist residents of Richardson with a free preparation of income tax returns. She conducted regular Bible study sessions at local nursing homes, taught Sunday School at the First Baptist Church, and sang in the church’s Goldenaires choir. Meredith and Ralph loved to travel with friends and family and visited more than 55 countries on six continents. Meredith was preceded in death last August by her husband of 63 years, Ralph. She is survived by her brother, H.W. Stigler, Jr., her son Ralph Marston, Jr. and wife Karen of Austin, her son Walt Marston and wife Nancy of Dallas. She was always so proud of her five grandchildren, Calvin Marston of Dallas, Carson Marston and his wife Amberly of Dallas, Angela Segreto and her husband Brad of Houston, Carly Marston of Dallas, and Kimberlin Marston of Austin, and was blessed with two wonderful great-grandsons, Cameron Marston of Dallas and Matthew Segreto of Houston. Meredith’s family gives special thanks to her amazing caregivers Grace Nyagah and Faith Nyagah who laughed with her, shared her stories, kept her warm, well nourished, safe and healthy with their patience and devotion. A memorial service will be held Thursday, April 5 at 2:00 pm at First Baptist Church in Richardson. Memorial gifts may be made at donate.kappadelta.org. Funeral arrangements entrusted to Restland Funeral Home, 13005 Greenville Avenue, Dallas, Texas 75243.
