Meriel "Susie" Matherson Moore's Obituary
Meriel (Susie) Matherson Moore, 92, of Dallas Texas peacefully passed away surrounded by family on February 29, 2024. She was born July 15, 1931, in Boston, Massachusetts to Meriel (Percy) and Stephen Matherson. She was a 1950 graduate of Oldfields School in Glencoe, Maryland and married the love of her life Jay Moore on April 19, 1951, in Dallas, Texas. Susie worked in administration for Lamplighter and Hockaday Schools while raising her three children. In later years, Susie was an after-school teacher at Hyer Elementary School and was an active member of several Dallas service organizations.
Susie loved working with children, was an excellent painter, loved the outdoors and was a friend to all. She had an amazing ability to connect with the people around her, young and old. Her love for the Lord fueled her kindness and dedication to those she loved. Miss Susie was a grandmother to all.
Susie was preceded in death by her husband of 39 years Jay Moore, son Scott Moore and her two older brothers. She is survived by her daughters, Melissa Garber and her husband Jim of San Marcos, Texas, Stephanie Frost and her husband Scott of Dallas, Texas, and daughter-in-law Catherine Moore of Dallas, Texas. She leaves behind 10 grandchildren: Greg (Nikki) Garber, Zachary Garber, Chamberlain (Brian) Van Orman, Erin (Gus) Vaughan, Kelly (Adam) Castillo, Brianne (William) Webb, Courtney Frost, Andrew (Hunter) Frost, Cristina Moore and Major Moore and 14 great grandchildren.
A celebration of life service will be held on Friday, March 15, 2024, at Highland Park United Methodist Church in Cox Chapel, 3300 Mockingbird Lane, Dallas Texas at 10 am. with Rev. Walt Marcum officiating.
