Merle Charles Peiffer's Obituary
Merle Peiffer, loving husband, father, and grandfather died peacefully at his Garland home on Tuesday, October 22, 2009 at the age of 81 after a recent struggle with a stroke and cancer. He was born at the family home outside Greencastle, Pennsylvania on May 10, 1928 to Elmer A. Peiffer and Esther Blanche Bittner. He was a 1946 graduate of Washington Township High School. Merle and Muriel Dolores Ambrose were married April 29, 1950 in their home town of Waynesboro Pennsylvania. He enlisted in the Armed Forces of the United States of America, serving in the artillery USAR stationed in Germany. After receiving an honorable discharge, he worked as an automotive mechanic in Waynesboro. Wanting a better life for himself and his family, he attended John Hopkin’s University while working full time, receiving a Bachelor of Science in Engineering in 1966 from John Hopkins University. Accepting a position as regional technical sales representative with American Meter Company, he and the family moved to Dallas, Texas in 1968. In 1976 he accepted the position of sales manager at ITT Snyder, retiring in 1986. Not wanting to be idle, he went to work for the Trammel Crow Company until 2005. Since then he has been employed as the family and neighborhood non-profit Mr. Fix-it who accepted hugs and love as payment. When the family moved to Dallas, they joined Central Lutheran Church where Merle was an active member for over 40 years, serving as teacher, Council member, usher, working on yard crew, as well as many other activities. Merle and Muriel were also active volunteers in the Meals on Wheels program. Merle was survived by his wife of nearly 60 years Muriel; daughter Melody and husband Tony; son Michael and wife Jerri; grandchildren Stephanie, Matthew, Mary, and Rachel; and numerous nephews and nieces. The family requests that memorials be made to the Central Lutheran Church pipe organ fund.
