Merle Gilbert Weaver's Obituary
WEAVER, MERLE GILBERT, a resident of Dallas, TX since 1957, was born May 31, 1921 in Kossuth, PA. Merle joyfully left this earth to be with his precious Lord Jesus on Tuesday, March 2, 2010 after living a wonderful life for 88 years! Merle is survived by his beautiful bride of 62 years, Roberta Mc Neish Weaver; loving daughter, Nancy Weaver Draper and husband, Van; brother, G. Edward Weaver. He is preceded in death by his parents, Guy and Gertrude Weaver; his 3 brothers, Lester M., Herbert R., and Jay M. Weaver; his sister, Virginia Weaver Fye. Merle was a veteran of the US 9th Air Force and served his country with the 391st Bomb Group of the 573 Bomb Squadron and was deployed to the WWII European Theatre Operation in England, France, and Belgium. After earning an Honorable Discharge from the Air Force, he met Roberta while attending Grove City College, PA. They were married in 1947. He wanted to become a pastor so he graduated from Westminster College, PA, and Garrett Seminary, Evanston, IL, before he served at Hennepin Ave Methodist, Minneapolis, and Laurel Heights Methodist, San Antonio. In 1957, they moved to Dallas where he served as Associate Pastor of Lovers Lane Methodist and later at Oak Lawn Methodist. He also became administrator of C.C. Young Home on NW Highway in Dallas. The Merle Weaver Insurance Agency, Inc. allowed Merle to serve many people in Dallas and neighboring cities with their insurance and personal needs. He loved all people and enjoyed helping them. He continued to encourage those with whom he came in contact up until the week of his death. He lived with a song in his heart and a joy in his step. The smile on his face penetrated one’s heart and will be remembered. Merle will be missed here on this earth but he is happy, healthy and enjoying his life in heaven. His desire was that each person who knew him would also know the Lord Jesus, who died and rose again to give eternal life to all who believe in His sacrifice on the cross. Merle took the song in his heart and with his wife, Roberta, served in the Chancel Choir as members of Park Cities Presbyterian Church since 1997. After moving into Whiterock Court Retirement Home, they continued their delightful people ministry as they reached out to resident friends every day with energetic spirit. They faithfully encouraged participation in the weekly Chapel Services at Whiterock and Merle hoped the services will continue beyond his death. A memorial service will be held at 3:30 PM, Sunday, March 7th, 2010 at Whiterock Court Retirement Home in Dallas, TX. Rev. Tom Duke will officiate. No visitation will be held at the request of the family and the Military Burial at Restland Veterans Park 2 on Monday will be for family members.
