Michael Lance Carter's Obituary
Michael Lance “Magellan” Carter, age 50, tragically lost his life on Thursday, October 13, 2022, in Dallas, Texas after a car accident en route to his job at VLPS/Evocative Data Center.. He was born to Mr. Michael Carter and Ms. Marilyn Carter on September 5, 1972, in Dallas, Texas. Lance leaves his loved ones with unforgettable memories and loving stories. He will be sincerely missed by his loving family, devoted friends, and all the wonderful individuals who knew and loved him.
Lance attended Edna Rowe Elementary, John B. Hood Middle School and graduated from Skyline High School in 1990. After earning his Associates Degree from Eastfield College, he went on to the University of Texas at Arlington, majoring in Computer Science. He had an incredible work ethic and worked in a variety of jobs and fields until he settled into the internet security field, in which he excelled.
Lance was so generous – with his time, with his love, his sense of humor and with his strength. He was always available to help both friends and family with anything they needed – you could always count on Lance to be there – no questions asked. He was a devoted son, husband,brother, father and friend. Lance continued to help others by giving the ultimate gift and being an organ donor.
His wife and children were his very essence and he spent as much of his free time as possible with them. He and his family loved to join friends at Scarborough Faire locally and at the Texas Renaissance Faire (TRF) in Houston. It was one of the many passions that Lance enjoyed.
Lance is survived by his wife, Amanda Carter of McKinney, TX and his children, Devin Seay and his wife, Haley (Garland TX) as well as Colin Seay, Garon Bratton-Carter and Sophia Carter (McKinney TX). He is also survived by family, his family of choice and hundreds of friends.
He is also survived by his father Michael Carter and his wife, Evelyn of Holly Lake, Texas. His mother Marilyn Carter and her husband, Stephen Tomacelli of Fate, Texas. Amanda’s parents, Bruce and Brenda Montgomery of Garland, Texas. Sisters-in-law, Julie Bilbrey of McClendon-Chisolm, TX and Patti Wood (Ryan) of Anna, TX. Grandmother Aileen Ashbrook of Bakersville, SC. Aunts Evelyn Horne, Melba Johnson and Paula Genovese. Uncles Dennis Ashbrook and Daniel Ashbrook plus many other great aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and hundreds of devoted friends.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Matthew Carter.

The service for Michael Lance Carter will be Sunday, October 23, 2022 at 2:00 PM in the Memorial Chapel at Restland Funeral Home at 13005 Greenville Avenue at the intersection of Restland Road. Visitation will be held at 1 pm with a small reception to follow at Restland.
