My friendship with Mike dates all the way back to kindergarten. He attended my 6th birthday party, and for some reason he became a little uncomfortable. I opened his gift right away,a book with a blue cover and a cute duckling, and when he saw how much I loved the book, he smiled and was ok then. It was probably 6th grade when I experienced his desire to entertain! I sat across from him at lunch, and orange quarters were on the menu. Mike ate the inside and then put the orange rind in his mouth and smiled, so we could see only orange. We all thought it was pretty funny and certainly harmless, but Mrs. Newman, the principal, didn't quite agree... I also remember singing in musical ensembles in 6th grade that Mrs. Brown- Van Kirk organized for us. I was one of the taller girls in 6th grade, and I'm pretty sure we were partners.
Of course I enjoyed talking to Mike at our reunion in September, and I am so sad that he is gone. Your family has experienced great loss in the last few years, and I send my deepest sympathies and prayers for you as you grieve.
