Michael Patton Godfrey's Obituary
Michael Patton Godfrey, a loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and dedicated professional, passed away peacefully on August 3, 2023. He was 82 years old.
Born on December 26, 1940, Mike, as he was affectionately known, was a cherished presence in the lives of his family and friends. He is survived by his two devoted sons, Jamie and Mark Godfrey, who will continue to carry his legacy forward. Mike's love extended to his three adored grandchildren, Mindy, Scot, and Ian Godfrey, and his three cherished great-grandchildren, Ryker, Vincent, and Raquel Godfrey.
Mike's family was a central focus in his life, and he is also survived by his sister-in-laws Gloria Stiles, Dolores Stiles, Judy Epperson, and brother-in-laws Howard Stiles, Mike Stiles, and Richard Stiles. His passing leaves a void in the hearts of those who loved him dearly.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Linda Godfrey, with whom he shared 48 wonderful years of marriage until her passing. Mike's enduring love for Linda was evident to all who knew them.
In addition to his wife, Mike was preceded in death by his father, Marvin Godfrey, mother, Ellen Godfrey, sister, Jane Marquee Brown, and brother-in-law, Ed Brown. He was also preceded by his sister, Ann Hampton, and brother-in-law, Aubrey Hampton, as well as numerous other dear relatives, including sister and brother-in-laws Tim Stiles, Sevier Stiles, Joan Stiles, Noami Stiles, and Wayne Stiles.
Mike and Linda's journey together began in 1960 when they exchanged vows at the 1st Assembly of God, officiated by Wayne Stiles. Their enduring love was an inspiration to all who knew them, and Mike continued to honor her memory after her passing.
A man of many talents and passions, Mike was an avid golfer and an enthusiastic traveler. His zest for life was evident in his pursuits and interactions with others. He started his work journey at the tender age of 11, and his dedication led him to a fulfilling career that spanned 38 years as the Vice President at Wilson Plywood and Door.
Mike's generosity and warm spirit touched lives far and wide, and he found joy in being around people. His kindness, compassion, and generosity knew no bounds.
A devoted member of Meadows Baptist Church in Plano, Mike found solace and tranquility in his faith. As he peacefully embarked on his journey to be with the Lord, his heart and soul were at complete peace.
Michael Patton Godfrey leaves behind a legacy of love, resilience, and a genuine spirit that will forever be cherished by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
The visitation will be held at Restland Funeral Home, 13005 Greenville Ave, Dallas, TX 75243 on Thursday August 10th from 5:00 pm – 7:30pm. The memorial service to celebrate Mike's remarkable
life will be held on Friday August 11th, with visitation starting at 10 and the service to start at 11:00am located at Meadows Baptist Church, 3001 Los Rios Blvd, Plano, TX, 75074. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to Meadows Baptist Church “Building Fund” in memory of Mike.
