Michael Bruce McGinnis' Obituary
Michael Bruce McGinnis was born in Parsons, Kansas on April 12, 1941 to Ferrell B. McGinnis and Evelyn Edinger. Mike’s dad was employed by Montgomery Ward and because of his job they moved from place to place for the first few years, finally settling in Wichita, Kansas. Mike graduated from East High School in 1959 and attended Wichita State University for a brief time before he was drafted in 1963 by the US Army. He left Wichita ending up at Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio, Texas. While in San Antonio Mike met the love of his life Sharon and they were married on April 2, 1966. They moved to Dallas and Mike went to work for Bell Helicopter Textron where he worked as a machinist until his retirement in 2003.
Mike and Sharon made their home in Dallas and ultimately in Grand Prairie, Texas where they raised their two sons, Jon Michael McGinnis and Todd Matthew McGinnis. Mike enjoyed fishing and loved to collect Department 56 Snow Village pieces which was his passion for many years. Mike and Sharon enjoy traveling, especially cruising.
He is preceded in death by his parents and his sister Patricia Bryant. Mike is survived by his wife, Sharon; sons, Jon McGinnis and wife Elizabeth of Fort Worth and Todd McGinnis of New Braunfels; precious grandsons, Hunter McGinnis, Colton McGinnis and Easton McGinnis of New Braunfels; sister, Peggy Stocker of Claremore, Oklahoma; mother-in-law, Beverly Brannam of San Antonio; as well as many nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
Visitation will be at Restland Funeral Home in Dallas, Texas on Sunday, July 24 from 2 to 4 PM and his funeral service will be on Tuesday, July 26 at 10 AM at Dallas Ft. Worth National Cemetery in Dallas. The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Mike’s name be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
