Michael Durward Miller's Obituary
With heavy hearts, we share that Michael D. Miller, 84, of Rusk, Texas, passed away on Friday, April 4, 2025. Born in Dallas, Texas, Michael was the son of Gordon and Peggy Miller. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend who lived life with passion and purpose.
A Life Well Lived
Michael was a man of many interests and endless energy. A lifelong NASCAR enthusiast, he rarely missed a race and was equally devoted to his beloved Dallas Cowboys. His love for vehicles and road trips extended far beyond the track. He owned and operated a successful auto body shop in Dallas for many years and later ran a Cornwell Tools franchise before retiring. In retirement, Mike spent countless days in his personal shop restoring old trucks to their former glory. His skill and craftsmanship were so admirable as he could make something special from what looked like nothing. He also embraced his adventurous spirit—riding his custom trike (often entered in local contests) and traveling to racetracks across the country. He especially enjoyed Friday nights at the ole Devils Bowl Speedway, Texas Motorplex drag strip, as well as visits to any racetrack with some fast competition.
Michael also found peace in playing the piano and the outdoors. He spent countless weekends fishing on lakes across Texas, Louisiana, Arkansas, and beyond—or casting a line from the beach. And when the mood struck, you might find him at the blackjack table or betting on horse races in Bossier City.
He lived every day in the moment and will be remembered for his quick wit, contagious laugh, and generous heart. To know Mike was to love him.
He is survived by his brother Bill Miller and wife Carol Miller. His children: Tonya Johnson and husband Chris Johnson, Wendy Ruddell and husband Steve Ruddell, and Michael Miller. His grandchildren: April Johnson, Brian Johnson, Matthew Scotton, Meagan Scotton, Tristan Ruddell, Taylor Marmon, Brittany Miller, Kristen Miller and Ryan Miller. Great grandchildren: Danaka Johnson, Shooter Johnson, Cam Johnson, Ava Johnson, Sophia Posada, Nicholas Posada, Olivia Posada, Harley Ruddell, Piper Marmon and Kimber Marmon. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Tammy Scotton and grandson Clayton Johnson.
A celebration of life will be held on Monday, April 14, 2025, at Restland Funeral Home and Cemetery, 13005 Greenville Avenue, Dallas, TX. The public viewing will take place from 1:00 to 2:00 PM in the Wildwood Chapel, followed by the funeral service from 2:00 to 3:00 PM. Graveside final prayers will be held from 3:00 to 3:30 PM.
