Michael John Penfold's Obituary
Michael John Penfold was born on October 22, 1971 in Salt Lake City, Utah and at 52 years old, passed away in his Garland, Texas home on May 20, 2024. He was the oldest sibling to Bob Penfold and Katherine Penfold. Growing up, Mike faced many challenges, frequently moving from place to place. Louisiana was one of the first places Mike truly called home before finally settling down in Waxahachie, Texas.
In 1994 Mike met his Montana sweetie, Joylene Hanni who would become the love of his life! On December 28, 1995, Mike and Joylene welcomed their son, Cory Michael Penfold into the world. On December 17, 2001, the family welcomed their little girl, Coda LeAnn Penfold.
Mike was always a hard worker and became quite the handyman, largely learning on his own. He worked multiple jobs at a time in order to provide for his young family, including starting his own painting business, Penfold Paint & Such. In 2004, Mike accepted a position as Project Manager at J&S Equipment Company, eventually rising to CEO and Owner of the school furniture and equipment company.
While J&S was a huge part of Mike’s life, he loved to have fun and live life to the fullest. He loved rock concerts, specifically Judas Priest and Iron Maiden. He loved to travel, taking his family on many trips, including Hawaii and Australia. Mike formed many friendships at his favorite brewery in Garland, Intrinsic. Later, Mike enjoyed Jeep’n in his aptly named jeep, Iron Mudd’n. He enjoyed off-roading and his annual guys’ camping trip in the Jeep. Mike loved his time in the yard followed by cold beers. But most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his wife and kids.
In 2024, Mike was celebrating his marriage of 30 years to Joylene, Coda’s graduation from Texas State University, Cory’s wedding to Liana Lauterbach, and was eager to become a Papa to his first grandchild.
He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Joylene Penfold, of Garland, Texas; son, Cory Penfold of Dallas, Texas; daughter Coda Penfold of Garland, Texas; mother Shirley Ann (Penfold) Crane of Findlay, Ohio; brother Bob Penfold (Jackie) of Allen, Texas; sister Katherine Ann Penfold, of Findlay, Ohio; and his soon-to-be-born granddaughter Micah Joy Penfold of Dallas, Texas.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 1st, 2024 followed by a Celebration of Life at Intrinsic Brewery in downtown Garland from 4pm-7pm. We welcome any who wish to pay their respects; please wear your favorite band or concert shirt!
