Michael Reagan Shanley's Obituary
Michael Reagan Shanley, age 58, passed on September 18, 2014. He was born at the U.S Army Hospital in Tokyo, Japan to Carol and Gilbert Shanley, Jr. on January 20, 1956. Michael was preceded in death by his Mother, Carol Coast Shanley of Shreveport, LA; his sister, Barbara Shanley Savoie of Jackson, MS; his father in law, E. By day, he was known as a successful software salesman for companies such as Lawson, PeopleSoft, Oracle, and Perceptive Software while by night he was known as phenomenal sports photographer for his sons and their teammates during football and lacrosse seasons at the Episcopal School of Dallas. When he wasn’t busy at the office or on the athletic field, he was exploring the world with his beautiful family. Whether it was scuba diving the Caribbean or relaxing along the shores of Lake Ouachita in Arkansas, Mike always knew how to enjoy the simplicities of life. Perhaps that is why his smile could always light up a room. Mike attended Jesuit of Shreveport, received a BS in Accounting from Louisiana Tech University and a Masters in Computer Science at the University of North Texas. He was a Certified Public Accountant. He is survived by his wife of 25 years, Sara Muirhead Shanley; his sons, Michael Reagan Shanley, Jr and Stephen Garner Shanley; his father, Gilbert Reagan Shanley, Jr. (Ann) of Shreveport, LA; his brother G. Reagan Shanley, III (Deidre) of New Canaan, CT; sisters in law, Marilyn Muirhead of Memphis, TN and Jan Muirhead (Larry Norton) of Nashville, TN and brother in law Michael J. Muirhead, M.D. (Susie) of Searcy, AR. Mike was blessed with 7 nephews, Chris Savoie (Michelle) of Salt Lake City, UT; Robert Savoie (Jessica) and John Savoie of New Orleans, LA; Weston Shanley of New Canaan, CT; Elliot Muirhead (Kari) of Houston, TX; Philip Muirhead of Boston, MA; and Cpt. Eric Muirhead (Annie) of Fort Hood, TX and 1 niece, Lindsay Shanley of New Canaan, CT. He was also honored to be called “Great Uncle Mike” by Mary Katherine Savoie, Gabrielle Savoie, Juliette Savoie, William Muirhead and Ethan Muirhead. The honorary pallbearers are Barry Baldwin, Steven Eggers, Curtis Downs, Phil Ritter, Van Sheets, Paul Talbot, Laura Worsham all of Dallas, TX and Jack Straton of Memphis, TN. Following the service, the family will greet friends in the church parlor. In lieu of flowers, please send memorials to Youth Ministry at Saint Michael and All Angels Church, Episcopal School of Dallas or the Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation.
