Michael Steven Winship's Obituary
Winship, Michael Steven~ Born August 19, 1946 in Kahuku, Hawaii, and passed away February 10, 2011 in Dallas, Texas. Mike was raised by John and Gerri Winship. He is survived by his loving wife of 43 years Diana L. Deshotels Winship, his son Michael and wife Laurel Winship, and his three grandchildren Michael Taylor, Hunter and Isabella Winship of Frisco, Texas. Mike graduated high school in Ft. Worth, Texas and immediately joined the Marines. He proudly served our country, volunteering for multiple tours in Vietnam. Mike was decorated for his valor, receiving several medals. He was honorably discharged from the military and began his life long career as a systems analyst working for many large companies in the Dallas area. He and his wife Diana planted their roots in Richardson, TX in the early seventies and have remained in that home since. One of Mike’s proudest achievements was his seventeen years of sobriety and his service through his group. He was a well known speaker and widely admired by all who knew him. A friend wrote, “Mike exemplified for me what a trusted servant in the Fellowship is supposed to be: solid, calm, steadfast, resting on the bedrock of principle, welcoming and encouraging to the newcomer, able to see the humor in a situation while never forgetting the grave earnestness of our purpose.” A memorial service will be Saturday, Feb 19, at 10:00 am at the Wildwood Chapel at Restland Funeral Home in Dallas. Please join the family for refreshments at their home in Richardson immediately following the service.
