Mr. Mihai Octavian Borcoman's Obituary
Mihai Octavian Borcoman passed unexpectedly on Monday, December 5, 2022 in Rowlett, Texas at the young age of 59. He was born August 17, 1963 in Sibiu, Romania to a respected and well-known socialite family. He was raised and lived under the Communist Regime, making for very interesting life experiences and stories to follow. He went to grade school and high school in Sibiu. He held leadership positions in his school's pioneers organization and was active in clubs like photography and painting. He was also involved in various sports like volleyball and tennis.
In his free time, he loved hiking the Carpathian Mountains and spending time with friends. He was passionate about music and held a large collection of vinyl records and cassette tapes that he was able to get from Germany at a time in Romania when foreign music was hard to find.
Following in his father's footsteps as a doctor, he went to medical school in Tirgu Mures at the University of Medicine and Pharmacy. He graduated with an MD focused on Pediatric Medicine. As the natural leader he was, he became the leader of the resident committee while in school starting his Freshman year. While in medical school, he married his wife, Gabriela Borcoman, in 1984. They were schoolmates since the 4th grade and have been soul mates since. They had both of their kids while still finishing medical school, growing their family and receiving their diplomas together. After graduating from medical school in 1989, he spent his first-year post-graduation enlisted in the army as a Physician in the Medical Corps; he treated injured soldiers during the 1989 Revolution, which was the fall of the communist regime in Romania and fought right outside his home in the streets of Sibiu. After the Revolution, he worked as a Resident Physician in the Children's Hospital until 1991 when he came to the United States to bring an adopted child to their new parents. Once in the US, he decided to start his life over from scratch in Dallas, Texas to provide a better life with more opportunities for his kids. On his own for the first year, he took different low-paying jobs to build a life abroad while studying immigration laws to bring over his family. In 1994, he was finally reunited with his kids welcoming them to the new life he and his wife built and everyone was once again together as a family.
Mihai started working at Marking Systems in 1992, marking the start of a 30-year era with the company. He started at the bottom as a press operator and moved up as the company continued to grow, working closely with the owners to run the company to what it is today, which is one of his proudest accomplishments.
He was a very devoted and loving family man. His life focus was to work hard to provide for his family, which included welcoming his in-laws and extended family in his home at any given time and in any time of need. He most enjoyed being in the comfort of his home in Rowlett, Texas surrounded by the love of his family and his dogs. His favorite place to vacation was on cruises and always enjoyed trying new restaurants. Mihai always had a taste for the finer things in life. He was an avid chess player, loved sports and was always interested in culinary arts. He was very proud of the life he built and his legacy will be continued on by his kids, Flaviu and Oana, and his wife.
Mihai was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents, Elena & Octavian Borcoman, Rodica Buse, Maria Mihai; his mother-in-law, Maria "Ica" Roman, and father-in-law, Cornel Roman; and his sweet dogs Bianca and Pete. He will be dearly missed by his wife, Gabriela Borcoman, and son, Flaviu Borcoman, of Rowlett, Texas, and his beloved daughter, Oana Borcoman, of Houston, Texas; his sister, Ioana Dischinger, of Munich, Germany; his sister-in-law, Cristina Bratu, of Magnolia, Texas; cousin Marius Lotrean and all his many friends from school days in Romania and his Romanian community of friends in Dallas that loved him dearly as their own family. As a lover of dogs, he will also be missed by his sweet Cora, who will always be at the window waiting for him, and the newest member of the family, Teddy.
