Milburn "David" Watkins' Obituary
Milburn "David" Watkins
December 2, 1950 – July 6, 2025
It is with deep sorrow and much love that we announce the passing of Milburn "David" Watkins, who departed this life on July 6, 2025, at the age of 74.
David was born on December 2, 1950, in Dallas, Texas, and grew up in Garland, Texas. He graduated from Garland High School in 1969 and went on to attend college at East Texas State University in Commerce, Texas, where he studied Fine Arts. He was known for his kind heart, steady presence, and unwavering dedication to his family. He touched the lives of many with his warmth, wisdom and strength.
Born with birth defects, David never let that slow him down. At the age of five, he began racing quarter midgets and later moved into TT dirt motorcycle racing. His passion for speed and competition led him to road race motorcycles for Yamaha, competing at tracks across the country including Ontario Speedway, Daytona Speedway, and Road Atlanta. After retiring from motorcycle racing, he continued his love for motorsports by racing off-road buggies and go-karts—often alongside his son.
While continuing his motorsports racing, David worked as a mechanic at Knights Foreign Auto and Davis & Son's. He later joined his mother at Crystal Laundry, where they worked side by side. David then transitioned into the telecommunications industry with Jefa International, and eventually moved into the freight industry at KFS, where he worked until his retirement in 2019.
David was also a devoted grandfather who loved attending his grandchildren’s sporting events. He enjoyed fishing and spending time outdoors, always finding joy in the simple pleasures of life.
He was preceded in death by his father, M.I. Watkins; his mother, Aslee Watkins; and his sister, Margie Hutson.
He is survived by his loving wife, Carvette Watkins, with whom he shared 54 years of marriage, having wed on October 2, 1971; his sisters, Jo Tincher and Sue Seguin; his son, Dewayne Watkins, daughter-in-law Angie Watkins; his daughter, Deanne Karl, son-in-law Charlee Karl. He was a proud grandfather to five grandchildren: Cooper Karl, Riley Watkins, Mikayla Karl, Logan Watkins, and Harper Watkins, all of whom brought him immense joy and pride.
David will be deeply missed and forever remembered by his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him.
