Mildred Adel Ware Gonzales' Obituary
Mildred Adel Ware Gonzales was born on December 27, 1927 in Miami, Florida, and left this earth to join her Lord and Savior on June 1, 2016. Mildred, (Millie) was the second of three children born to John Thomas and Delphine Amanda Ware. Millie graduated from Miami Jackson High School, where she was the co-editor of the school yearbook, a member of the National Honor Society and a cheerleader. She met the love of her life, Eugene (Gene) Gonzales in high school. They went to the senior prom together, and the rest is history. After graduating from high school, she was offered a full scholarship to the University of Georgia, but after one year, missing Gene, she transferred to the University of Miami to be with him. She graduated from the University of Miami in 1947 with a degree in education. This spunky little red-head was pet named, Punky, by her sweetheart, Gene, and on September 6, 1948 they were married and together they raised 3 children; Richard Eugene Gonzales, Deborah Carol Stone and John Gerard Gonzales. Millie was a primary school teacher for 42 years of her life; dedicating her love of reading, writing and arithmetic to the students she loved, while teaching all grades between 1st and 5th. In 1967, the family moved from Coral Gables, Florida to Dallas, Texas where she became a second grade teacher at Bullock Elementary in Garland. Her love of writing is evident in her many poems and stories of fun vacations, family holiday gatherings, sunflowers and those beautiful Texas bluebonnets. Millie went on to continue her education receiving her Masters in elementary education from SMU. Millie loved Bridge and easily became an expert in any game she pursued including crossword puzzles and mind games of any form. She and Gene were always looking for ways to turn their love for friends and each other into fun, from being active long-time members in the “Swinging Saints” square dance club to long weekends on their boat at Lake Texoma. She was an active member at Walnut Hill United Methodist Church and a long time member of the Harmony Sunday School Class. Millie touched the lives of so many children over her years as an educator, and the lives of all those around her. Her laugh was contagious and her love for family was a hallmark in her life. Millie is survived by Gene, her loving husband of 68 years, her sons Richard and John Gonzales, her daughter, Deborah Gonzales Stone, her grandchildren, Kimberly Ditore, Jennifer Hood, Lauren del Busto, Matthew Gonzales, Michael Snuffer, Alison Miller, Brittany Stone, Logan Stone, Nick Gonzales, Ben Gonzales, and by ten great-grandchildren.
