Mildred Aleene Moore Henson's Obituary
Mildred Aleene Moore Henson, age 89, joyfully entered Heaven Sunday evening, May 6, 2012. She lived a gracious life filled with passion, wonder, awe, and energy for her Savior, her family, friends, and neighbors, her home, and her work. Mildred was born to Mabel McDowra Moore and William Homer Moore on December 16, 1922 in Pattonville, Texas. She married Truett Tolman Henson on April 14, 1944, and as of Sunday evening, has likely talked non-stop filling him in on all the events he missed since his passing in 1997. Her family and friends will miss her deeply, yet feel great joy that her faith now has sight, she worships the King face to face, and she is reunited with many loving family members and friends. In addition to her husband, Mildred is preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Billy Joe Moore; her sisters, Nancy Barrett and Merle Montgomery; her sisters-in-law, Margaret Moore, Phoebe Henson Douglass, Corrine Henson Broussard, Lola Fern Henson, and Marie Henson; her brothers-in-law, Samuel G. Henson, and Loren Douglass; Truett’s parents, Rev. Claude and Bertha Henson; and many, many dear friends who were members of the Ruth Class at First Baptist, Garland, Texas. Mildred is survived by her children; Dan and Phyllis Henson of Lucas, Texas; Tim and Leslie Henson of Garland, Texas, and Rosemary Henson of Dallas, Texas; her grandchildren; Dottie and Sean Sharrer of Wylie, Texas; Jenny and J.P. Ramsey of Rockwall, Texas; Beth Ellen Henson of Keller, Texas; and Connor Glynn Henson of Garland, Texas; her great-grandchildren; Jenna and Julie Ramsey; and Colt and Landry Sharrer; as well as many loving nieces, nephews, neighbors, and friends. Her voice and instructions will lovingly, and often humorously, remain in our hearts and minds for many, many years to come. A visitation for family and friends will be held Thursday, May 10, 2012 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Restland on Greenville Avenue. A Memorial Service will be at the First Baptist Church in Garland, Texas (Main Sanctuary) at the corner of W. Avenue D and Glenbrook Drive on Saturday, May 12, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. with a light lunch and reception to follow. Mother wants to host one more event at her beloved church, and asks only that you bring a bit of an appetite, along with good conversation, a desire to catch up on all the latest news with long-time friends, and laughter. Mildred graduated as valedictorian of her high school class in Pattonville, Texas. She participated in many One Act Plays and Speech contests while in high school. She received her B.S. from Texas Women’s University in 1963 after being a stay at home mom. Following this graduation, Mildred was a Garland ISD 2nd grade school teacher for 24 years. She loved teaching from her earliest years to her final year. This love and passion for teaching was also satisfied by teaching Sunday School classes of various ages for 60 years at First Baptist Church in Garland, Texas. Mildred was also an accomplished book reviewer and storyteller. She possessed a wonderful sense of humor and comic timing, as well as a flare for the dramatic. She had a strong love for and belief in missions, and also was active in many community organizations. Although, she loved gardening and the beautiful colors and textures of flowers and plants, Mildred asked that, in lieu of flowers, you consider planting something beautiful in your gardens with her in mind. The family also knows that she would be thrilled with donations to the First Baptist Church of Garland for the Pipe Organ Fund or Missions, or a charity of your choice. Generous and gracious, funny and loving, strong and persistent, she responded to many names; Mildred, Mimi, GH, Millie, Mom, Mother, Sister, Friend…we are blessed to have had her in our lives…and we share, to the extent of our earthly understanding, the joy that she experiences now and for eternity. Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of his saints. Psalm 116: 15
