Mildred Jean Morgan's Obituary
MORGAN, MILDRED JEAN was born February 15, 1918 in Port Arthur, TX and passed away December 9, 2012 in Dallas, TX. Mildred was preceded in death by her husband of 35 years, Dr. Leon Augustus Morgan. She received her B. A. degree in Home Economics from Prairie View A&M University and her Master’s degree in Elementary Education from Iowa State University. She had a long and distinguished teaching career that spanned almost 30 years between the Port Arthur and Galveston Independent School Districts. She was one of those rare teachers who created an atmosphere in the class that was sheer magic for her students, educating, inspiring and motivating them. She went out of her way to help her students. She visited their parents at home and even bought winter coats and shoes for students who needed them. In her undergraduate senior class in 1940, she was voted “Most Beautiful.” Her outer beauty was only surpassed by her inner beauty and radiance. She greeted everyone with a smile and offered words of encouragement, prayers and a helping hand to anyone who needed it. She touched the lives, hearts and minds of so very many people with her generous heart, gentle spirit and kind soul. She was deeply devoted to her family. She strengthened, supported and loved them beyond measure. Words cannot express the profound impact and blessed legacy that she leaves behind. She lived her life according to God’s word and will forever be cherished and loved. She is survived by her sister, Shirley Navy Veltz and husband Walter; nephew, Daniel Keys III and wife Denise; nieces, Janice Babineaux and husband David, Rachel Williams and husband Kevin; great-nieces, Dadriana Keys and Sydney Keys; great-nephews, Matthew Babineaux and Christopher Babineaux; great-niece, Kristen Elizabeth Williams; and special care-giver, Olga Olson.
