Mildred Saxon's Obituary
SAXON, MILDRED “Precious” It was her favorite word. And when she gazed warmly at you and called you precious, you felt truly loved. Born November 10, 1922, Mildred “Millie” Saxon left this earthly life June 4, 2012. She rests now in the embrace of the Love beyond all imagining. Millie was a devoted wife to her beloved Bob, a strong, guiding presence for her children-Pat, Doug and Carl– and a woman of integrity and courage. Before she faced the empty nest, she was called to her life’s passion as Director of the Cochran Chapel United Methodist Church Care Corps, a role she entered into with compassion and a fierce advocacy. A true servant leader, her dedication was supreme-whether gathering food for a memorial service reception, finding shoes for poor children, visiting nursing homes, or writing 20 shut-ins a month. After Bob’s death, her love and guidance poured into the boarding students of the Hockaday School. For more than 25 years, her mother-hugs, gentle discipline, sage wisdom, and shared tears shaped many young women. Their devotion to her was tender and ongoing, honoring her 80th birthday and visiting on alumnae weekends. In her final years, the debilitating effects of disease and aging limited her but could not quench her fire. Even in the mists of dementia, she could play a mean game of dominos, especially when fueled by guacamole. In these difficult times, our gratitude has grown deep-for the love of faithful friends and for the compassionate caregivers at Parson’s House, at Lexington Place on Merriman Parkway and from Vitas Hospice. Many loved ones have joined the communion of saints: her mother and father-Georgia Mae and Earl Sullivan, her husband Bob, her son Doug, her precious dog Sassy. The extended family who remain to celebrate her include Pat Saxon, Marge Austen, Angela Baker, Anita Haddy, Karen Drawz, Carl, Cathy and Tray Saxon, Brent, Dana, Mackenzie, Reese and Finley Saxon, Ashley, Manuel and Jeremy Perales, and the Louisville, Kentucky contingency-sister Patsy Scholtz and her nieces and their families: Patti and J Back and Prissi, Tom, Allie, and Zack Capes. A celebration of Millie Saxon’s life will be held at Cochran Chapel United Methodist Church, 9027 Midway Road on Thursday, June 7 at 10:30 AM. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Hockaday Scholarship Fund, 11600 Welch Road, Dallas, Texas 75229.
