SHINN, MILDRED ELIZABETH of Dallas, Texas, died December 5, 2013. She was born August 14, 1922, in Dallas, to Charles Lafayeitt Bludworth and Lizzie Bell (Wallace) Bludworth. She and her five older brothers were raised in Oak Cliff. She graduated from Adamson High School, and after, worked the night shift at Bell Telephone. She entered nursing school in 1942 at Methodist Hospital and SMU, earning her RN degree in 1945. It was at Methodist that she met her future husband, Bonner Shinn, a medical intern. After graduation, she worked at a Gladewater hospital, then moved to California, where Bonner was in the Navy. She and Bonner married in San Diego on Friday, April 13, 1946. Over the next several years, Mildred did obstetrical and surgical nursing, and worked in Bonner’s office, as the couple followed Bonner’s career in Grand Prairie, Galveston, and again in San Diego, before finally settling in Dallas. During these times, they had two children, Linda and Barbara, whom they raised in Oak Cliff. Through the years, Mildred demonstrated varied interests, including bridge, book clubs, real estate, ballroom dancing, volunteering with Wilkinson Center, Meals on Wheels, and the Stewpot, going to their lake house, and spending time with their grandchildren. She grew up in Oak Cliff Christian Church, transferring to Rosemont Christian Church, and finally to Northway Christian Church. She was preceded in death by the love and rock of her life, her husband Bonner (Pop); her parents, Charles and Lizzie Bell Bludworth; and her five brothers, Charles ( Hap) Bludworth, Walter Bludworth, Bill Bludworth, Leonard Bludworth, and Wallace Stephens.
