Mildren Merle Hill's Obituary
Merle Hill “Mama” passed away peacefully on February 24 in Dallas surrounded by her family. She was born in Princeton, Texas on April 14, 1918 and was the daughter of Ethel and Vance Blackburn and sister of James Blackburn. Merle graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School. She married Garvice Hill in 1937 at Gaston Avenue Baptist Church in Dallas. Merle centered her 66-year marriage and family around her deep faith in Christ. She was a dedicated 4th grade Sunday School teacher at Highland Baptist Church for more than 45 years and later was a member of Lakeside Baptist Church. She devoted her time and money to the American Red Cross who saved her brother being held a POW in Korea. She was a pioneer Mary Kay Director and cherished the success of her sales ventures. She loved Cedar Creek Lake and sharing its beauty and fun with everyone. Her friends considered her the best Bridge player around, and she never missed an opportunity to host a party where she loved all the preparation. She was a fantastic baker. Her cookies, cakes and rum cake were unmatched. She had a constant presence in the lives of her family members. She would drive 45 minutes to see 2 minutes of a performance, graduation or sporting event and always baked incredible birthday cakes for every family member. Until her passing, she lived alone, her mind sharper than a 40-year-old and continued to bake her famous cookies. Most of all, Mama loved Christ and her family: Sandy & David Kennedy, Pam & Felix Taglione; grandchildren Tracy & Mike, Terri & Richard, Jill & Jay, Ashley & Jimmy, Wade & Lauri, Katie & Jonathan, and Jonathan; great-grandchildren Amber & Cory, Spencer, Andrew, Gracie, Hank, Maggie, Annie, Julia, Will, Sam & Madison who loved and looked forward to her Bunny Cake on Easter and her cookies on every special occasion. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Red Cross. Memorial services will be held at Restland Memorial Chapel Wednesday, February 27th at 2:30 p.m.
