Millicent Francis Walden's Obituary
Millicent Francis (Haskell) Walden age 89 of Richardson, Texas, born March 13, 1930 to Willard Natwick Haskell and Helen Millicent (Lapell )Haskell in Chicago, Illinois. Her father died when she was six years old and was raised by grandparents in Midlothian, Illinois. Millie moved to San Benito, Texas in 1945 to be with her mother and stepfather, later graduating from San Benito High School. She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree and a Permanent Teaching Certificate from the University of Texas in Austin in 1951, with a double major in Spanish and English. Following graduation, she married Jocelyn Jean Bowden, moved to El Paso, Texas and taught Spanish in the Ysleta Independent School District in Ysleta, Texas while continuing graduate studies at Texas Western University in El Paso. She left the teaching profession to begin her own family of four girls and one boy. The family moved to Midland, Texas in 1955 and Arlington, Texas in 1960. Following a divorce Millie moved to Dallas, Texas and went to work for Texas Instruments Incorporated in 1965 and retired after 30 years there as the Library Cataloging Specialist of Technical Information. In 1967 Millie was awarded the status of Life Master in the American Contract Bridge League. She left us on Friday, August 30, 2019 as a loving, thoughtful, and giving woman. She later married Ernest Dean Walden, her loving and devoted husband of 40 years (married 1-01-1978); a brother, Willard N. Haskell and his late wife Juanelle; four daughters: Rebecca Quiocho and husband Jeff, Janet Gordon and husband Larry, LaDonna Taylor and husband Robert, Cynthia Gillis; three sons: Jay Bowden and wife Peggy, Richard Walden and wife Cynthia, and Robert Walden; along with 22 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her mother and stepfather, Helen and Claude Van Meter and birth father, Willard Natwick Haskell. Millie was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, aunt and loyal friend.Visitation will be on Saturday, September 14, 2019 at 9:30 AM to 10:30 AM at Restland Funeral Home. Graveside services will be held 11:30 am, Saturday, September 14, 2019 at Restland Memorial Park.
