Millie Lucille Montgomery's Obituary
Millie Lucille Montgomery (Pace) was born on July 20, 1933 in Palestine, Texas and passed away August 19, 2016 in Plano, Texas. She was preceded in death by her husband, Mildren Montgomery (1976), and daughter Sheralyn Teynice Montgomery (2016). Millie is survived by her eldest daughter Isreala (Marilyn) Montgomery, granddaughter Magan Knuckles, and sisters Essie and Emma Jean. Family will receive friends on Friday, August 26, 2016 from 6 PM to 8 PM at Restland Funeral Home. Funeral service will be held on Saturday, August 27, 2016 at 12:30 in the Wildwood Chapel at Restland Funeral Home. Millie Montgomery Pace was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, teacher and friend to many. She was raised in Palestine by Earnest and Millie Pace, alongside her siblings Essie, Emma Jean, Royce, and Cecil. She left home to attend college at Prairie View A&M University, where she met Mildren Montgomery, a biology professor, chemist, and business entrepreneur who later found and became president of Garland Foods, Inc., the 10th largest black-owned manufacturing firm in the United States. Together they would attain many things, but their dearest accomplishments were their two beautiful daughters, Marilyn and Sheralyn. After the girls had started thriving in school, Millie became a home economics instructor (an extremely skilled seamstress) and volunteered for various causes and organizations. She was a charter member of The Girl Friends, Inc. Millie organized the Dallas Chapter of Continental Societies, Inc. Years later she would continue in education as a substitute teacher at Boude Storey DISD, and served as treasurer for the Rotary International Club, Prestonwood, Dallas. Millie could be counted on to bring joy and laughter to all those she encountered; she was a loving and generous spirit—full of grace with strong character. To all those she loved, she will be sorely missed.
