I met Millie in 2011, shortly after my own beloved mother passed away. A Dallas couple hosted an event in their home for me to present my organization’s work, saving baby girls and widows in China. After the presentation, Millie approached me to bless my work, and we spoke for a long time.
Immediately when she walked up to me, I felt embraced by her grace, her beauty and her love. Over and over again, I felt that her spirit reminded me of my dear mother, so I finally said to her, “Millie, you remind me so much of my mother.” I told her about my grief, that my mother had recently passed away. Millie said, “Well, I have never been able to have children, so I would be honored to be your mother.” From that moment on, she became my adopted mother, and I became her adopted daughter. In fact, I understand from Larry that I was listed on her cell phone under the name, “Adopted Daughter”!
In getting to know Millie, I have become aware of the huge role she played in the faith community of Dallas. She was an outstanding Bible teacher, really setting others on fire for the Lord and training many other women’s Bible Study teachers. We are all her spiritual children. The ripple effects of her passionate love of the Lord are still being felt in Dallas, and as far away as China.
For the past 11 years, Millie and George have called me many times to pray for me and encourage me, in my ministry, but also in my personal and family life. Her concerns ranged from the well being of every member of my family to the geo-political struggle with China and the suffering of women and babies under that brutal regime.
Millie was a mighty woman of God, filled with faith. I like to think of her with her beloved husband, George, and with my mother and father, radiant in glory, in the arms of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
