Mineola 'Minnie' Wamble Biard's Obituary
Mineola Wamble (Minnie) Biard, born in Dallas, Texas on March 29, 1924, died February 18, 2012, at age 87, in her daughter’s home in Denton, Texas. She was an extraordinary person, a loving and beloved wife to Jack Biard and devoted mother to five children. Minnie was salutatorian of Woodrow Wilson High School (Dallas) in 1941. Thirty-seven years later, in 1978, she obtained a bachelor’s degree in Psychology from UT-Dallas after attending seven colleges over a 30-plus year span in Sioux City, Iowa; Roswell, New Mexico; Midland, Odessa, Denton, and Dallas. She had resumed her college studies when her fifth child entered grade school in 1966 and graduated when he graduated from high school. After raising five children and obtaining a college degree, she was a dedicated volunteer at Family Outreach of Richardson-Plano for 25 years where she served in several capacities, including with the board of directors, as counselor, and office manager. In 1990, she was Helping Agencies Serving Richardson’s nominee for statewide Volunteer of the Year. She and Jack were married at Jefferson Barracks in St. Louis on April 23, 1943. During Jack’s service in the U.S. Army Air Corps, after his return from England in 1944 they lived in Sioux City; Colorado Springs, Colorado; and Albuquerque, New Mexico. After the war, they lived in Austin, where Jack earned his law degree from U.T. in 1948. Over Jack’s 34-year career with ARCO, the family lived in Shreveport, Louisiana; Dallas; Tyler; Oklahoma City; Roswell; Midland; and Plano. She was preceded in death by parents Claude Everett and Ruth Patterson Wamble, twin sisters Maurine and Maxine, and brother Everett; her daughter Diana Ruth Cox; and her loving husband of 66 years, Jack. She is survived by children and spouses Judy and J.B. Spalding of Denton; David and Tina Biard of Oklahoma City; John and Pam Biard of Erie, Colorado; Bob Biard and Rick Chafey of Austin, and son-in-law Royall Cox of San Antonio; grandchildren Nichole Spalding-Watson and husband Bill, Trey Spalding and wife Karen, Arden Biard, and Vanessa and Logan Bohrer; great-grandchildren Lauren Spalding, Katherine Spalding, and Mia Spalding-Watson; and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be at 12:30pm on Saturday, February 25, 2012, at Wildwood Chapel, Restland Memorial Park in Dallas, with her dear friend, the Reverend Anna Hosemann-Butler officiating. A memorial service will be held at Good Samaritan Village, 2500 Hinkle Drive, Denton, Texas at a later date.
