Minnie Hester Johnson's Obituary
Minnie Hester (Taylor) Johnson was born to Will and Ethel Taylor on May 11, 1932 and was raised in McKinney, Texas. Minnie Hester was the baby of the Taylor bunch.
The Taylors raised their children in the fear and admonition of the Lord. Minnie accepted Christ in her youth, serving in the Church of God in Christ #1 and St. James Christian Methodist Episcopal Church in McKinney.
Minnie attended and graduated from E. S. Doty High School. She was a great student and was engaged in various activities. She was blessed with many gifts and talents that would be used throughout her life, including her many years at Texas Instruments (TI) until her retirement.
Minnie Hester was married to Joseph Johnson for 58 years until his death in 2014. Through their union, they raised their four beloved children – Joseph Gene, Morris Oliver, Claudia Marcia and Alan Louis. She also gained her Louisiana in-laws.
Full of life and always on the go, Minnie Hester joined the Hamilton Park United Methodist Church, where she served for more than half a century. Her church service included Usher Board #1, the Food Pantry Ministry and the Mature Adults Ministry. Hamilton Park was the community where she happily raised her family.
Minnie Hester never met a stranger and carried a special place in the hearts of many. To her children, play daughters and special friends, she was adored as “Hester” and “Mama.” To her grandchildren, nieces and nephews, she will always be remembered for her love of fine clothing, for the home where great food could be found and for the place where the Dallas Cowboys were watched on Sundays. Playing BINGO and cards, collecting clowns, figurines and knick knacks and traveling were also near to her heart. She loved to drive and enjoyed her candy! To her friends and family, she was known for her love of her Hamilton Park community – winning yard and holiday decorating competitions. She loved being on the front porch and keeping up with her neighbors and their children. If it happened in the neighborhood, Minnie Hester wanted to know, and she was intentional about knowing her neighbors.
Upon her retirement from TI, she provided child-care for children as if they were her own. Along with the best snacks, she always had books, puzzles or electronics that encouraged learning. From gardening to cooking and even neighborhood candy sales, there was always a chance to learn. Minnie Hester will be missed for her active engagement and for creating memories in every aspect of life!
Preceded in death by her husband, Joseph; son, Alan; siblings – Herman, Thurman and Elizabeth Taylor, Mary Nell Mack, Willie Ruth Keller and Ethel Howard, Minnie Hester leaves to cherish her memory: sons, Joseph Gene Johnson (Cassie) and Morris Oliver (Jacqueline) of Dallas, TX, daughter Claudia Marcia Johnson-Hall (Edward) of Lafayette, LA. and play daughter Maria Arita-Howard (Thomas) of Frisco, TX; beloved grandchildren: La’Toya Swan (Conrad), Collette Johnson, Olivia Johnson, Morris Clark, Dorian Thomas, Bianca Thomas, Damon Russell, Dawnn Atkins, Janita Kelly, Jalen Lind and Jalaya Lind.
