Mitchell Gray Gilbert's Obituary
Gilbert, Michael Gray, Beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, Mitch Gray Gilbert passed away on February 14, 2008. Mitch Gray was born on January 28, 1915 in Dallas to Grace and Randle Gilbert. His parents and brother, Robert R. Gilbert, Jr. predeceased him. A memorial service celebrating his long and wonderful life will be held on Tuesday, February 19th at 11:00 a.m. at The Highland Park United Methodist Church following a private gravesite service at Restland Cemetery. Surviving are his wife of 60 years (Mary Katharine) Kay Harrington Gilbert; his children, Mitch Gilbert, Jr. (Margie Kircher) and Gayle Gilbert Meredith (Wayne); grandchildren, Russell and Amanda Meredith; and numerous nieces and nephews. The family is grateful to his loving caregivers Greg Hardy and Rae White. Proud of being a native Dallassite, Mitch Gray graduated from Highland Park High School, SMU, and the Harvard Business School. Following service in the Navy during WWII on the USS Solomon’s aircraft carrier, he entered a career of banking and investments. He served his community in numerous ways, i.e. 6 years on the Highland Park Town Council, the Salemanship Club, and the Sertoma Club as well as an active member of The Highland Park United Methodist Church. An ardent sports lover, he enjoyed membership in Northwood Golf Club, Dallas Country Club, Coon Creek Hunting and Fishing Club, and The Garden of the Gods Club in Colorado Springs. Mitch Gray was a lover of music, dancing, and wonderful friendships and served as president of the Idlewild Club and the Terpsichorean Club. He enjoyed summer in Chautauaua Park in Boulder, CO, but also loved traveling worldwide. Zang Blvd., Suite 700, Dallas (75208). He was an elegant gentleman in ever way with a sweet smile and a twinkle in his eye. He will be missed by all.
