Mozelle Rawson Brown's Obituary
Mozelle Rawson Brown, age 83 of Dallas, Texas, passed away November 12, 2017 in Carrollton, TX due to complications of dementia. She was born March 1, 1934 to Gerald E. and Dellie Mae Rawson in San Augustine, TX. She married Robert Wade Brown on July 2, 1954 in Dallas, TX.Mozelle grew up in San Augustine, TX as one of 6 children. She was the daughter of a missionary Baptist preacher. She had a fighting spirit, a passion for art and a pursuit of knowledge of the arts and culture. She was a loving mother, grandmother , sister and sister in law. She had incredible strength and steadfast love. She was a mentor to many. She enjoyed throwing parties, entertaining and being with her family and friends.She loved being creative and always thought of different ways of doing things. She was an accomplished Texas Artist. She studied art at Southern Methodist University and the University of Texas in Arlington. She was the recipient of a 1986 Honorary Alumni Award form North Texas State University in Denton, TX. She studied under many well known artists such as James Surls, SMU; Phillip Pearlstein, NY; Ed Betts, Illinois; and Anthony Toney, NY.To quote: “My work is an abstraction of things I have experienced, the only reference being the vast storage of material in my mind. As a child growing up in a small East Texas town, I learned to appreciate the wonderful forms, designs and colors around me.” — Mozelle Rawson BrownAs she passed on a cloudy and somewhat dreary day, the cloudy sky opened up for her passage on to heaven. She will always remain in our hearts and minds.Mozelle was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Wade Brown. She leaves behind to cherish her memory her son, Robert L. Brown of Plano, TX; four daughters, Cindy Miller of Little Elm, TX, Candy Harper of Irving, TX, and Cathy Vance of Carrollton, TX; sisters, Glendel Dixon, Evanell Shepherd, and Wanda Matthes; nine grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and many other extended family and dear friends.The visitation will be on Friday, November 17, 2017 from 6:00PM to 8:00PM. The funeral service will be at 2:30 pm, Saturday, November 18, 2017 at Restland Funeral Home in the Memorial Chapel. Dr. Michael Waco will officiate. Following the service, there will be a short procession to Acacia Lawn at Restland Memorial Park for a brief committal service and a dove release. Following the graveside service, all are invited to a reception at the home of Howard and Cathy Vance located at 4014 Province Drive, Carrollton, TX 75007.Arrangements are under the care of Restland Funeral Home located at 13005 Greenville Ave., Dallas, TX 75243.
