Murlie Jean Clark's Obituary
Murlie Jean (Payne) Clark, 95, of Dallas, died November 14, 2022. She was born June 14, 1927 to H.B. and Maggie Pearl (Bacon) Payne in Purcell, OK. Murlie graduated high school in Wayne, OK 1945 and was on the high school girls’ softball and basketball teams.
She married Burley Clark on May 31,1947 and they had 3 daughters: Vicki, Denise and Carol. Murlie worked at a tool company after high school in Oklahoma City, at Muscular Dystrophy part-time after the girls were in school, and then Doctor’s Hospital after the family moved to Dallas in 1971. She retired from there in1995.
Murlie was a long time member at White Rock church of Christ, Dallas and enjoyed worshiping, fellowshiping and volunteering with her many friends there. She also was an active member of Widow Person’s Services and a 25 year volunteer at the Dallas Arboretum. She enjoyed fishing and playing with her grandchildren, gardening, walking in her neighborhood and keeping in touch with family and friends near and far.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Burley, her parents H.B. and Maggie Pearl Payne, all of her siblings, many brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, her oldest daughter Vicki Williamson and son-in-law George. Murlie is survived by daughter Denise Smith and her husband Mike, daughter Carol Roewe and her husband Mark, grandchildren Stephanie Smith, Carl Williamson and wife Kirsten, Brett Smith and wife Lisa, Scott Smith and wife Sarai, Alan Roewe, Christopher Payne Roewe and wife Madi. Other survivors include great grandchildren Chris Smith; Hayden, Olivia and Logan Williamson; Selah, Austin and Ethan Smith; Everett and Ella Roewe; and great great grandson Brantley Smith. Also, brother-in law James Clark and wife Barbara, sister-in-law Claudia Clark, sister-in-law Rose Payne and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
A memorial service is planned for Sunday, November 20 at 2:00 at the Memorial Chapel at Restland Funeral Home. The family wishes to recognize and thank the staff at Community Hospice and James L.
