Preceded in death by husband Ernest Davis, son Ronnie Davis, and son-in-law Billy Allen. Myrtle was born in rural Dallas County, TX to Charles and Ida Crombie, the 4th of six children: Cleo, Woodrow, Bea, Myrtle, J.C. and Opal. Some of Myrtle’s earliest memories were of their simple farm life: doing chores, picking cotton, and traveling the area by horse drawn wagon. On Dec 12, 1936, Myrtle married Ernest Laprell Davis. Ernest and Myrtle raised their family in the Richardson area where Ernest worked for the Richardson School District. Myrtle stayed at home with their children. With almost 19 years between Ronnie and Kenneth, Ernest and Myrtle had “kiddo’s” in the home for 37 years! To help provide for the family, Myrtle took in laundry and also baby-sat for numerous neighbors and relatives, providing her motherly care to a legion of children beyond her own. Later, Myrtle worked as the cafeteria manager at Spring Valley Elementary where she had many friends and took great joy in cooking for the school children. After retirement, Ernest and Myrtle spent many years on Aunt Bea’s farm in rural Edgewood, TX. Myrtle relocated back to the north Dallas area after Ernest passed away in 1998. While these are the facts of Myrtle’s life, it is the memories we have that really tell the story of or dear “Momma” and “Nanaw”: Selfless love-she always put the needs of others before her own; Loving, caring provider- a life of hard work for her family-simply because that is who she was and what she wanted to do; The Joy of Children-kids, grandkids, great-grandkids, nieces, nephews, cousins, friends-simply having them under-foot and around the home;Laughter she was funny without trying to be. She had a quick wit and a sharp mind. We laughed often with her; “Myrtle Meals” Momma was first in the kitchen and the last out. Biscuits and gravy for breakfast, fried chicken for Sun day lunch. Canning from the garden pickles, blackeyed peas, salsa and home made jelly; Christian woman she loved the Lord with all her heart. Families are like quilts lives pieced together stitched with smiles and tears colored with memories and bound by love. God made the quilt and he used our Momma as the thread. She will be greatly missed. Family will receive friends Wednesday, December 29, 2010 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Restland Funeral Home. A Funeral Service will be held Thursday, December 30, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. in Restland Wildwood Chapel.
