Nancy Marie Clark's Obituary
Nancy Marie was born on March 9, 1931, to Flora Marie and Claude Rice, in Wheeling, West Virginia. Nancy was the youngest of two children. Claudine was her older sister. The Rice family move to Akron, Ohio around 1939.
Nancy attended Bryant Elementary and North High School, graduating in 1949. After graduation she attended Kent State University in 1950.
Nancy was 17 when she met Henry Walter Clark while attending a bike riding event with her older sister and friends. Henry was also a student at Kent State and they became campus sweethearts. They were married July 14, 1951 with all 12 of Henry’s fraternity brothers as members of the wedding party -and “Party” they did!
Nancy and Henry were blessed with four children; Charlotte, Linda, Stephanie, and Henry Jr.
In their younger years they were very social in Henry’s fraternity events (Kappa Alpha Psi). When they weren’t attending a party, they were hosting a party. Their house was always filled with family, friends and much love and laughter.
Nancy was an excellent seamstress and made many of her formals and fancy evening attire. She also was passionate about gardening. Her favorite flowers were begonias and impatiens.
Nancy was quite independent. Later in life she attended Nursing School and graduated in 1965. She began her nursing career at City Hospital, and retired from St. Thomas Hospital in 1985.
Nancy was a longtime member of St. Phillips Episcopal Church of Akron, OH., where she served as treasurer for several years. She was a faithful wife, devoted mother and loving grandmother.
After retirement, Nancy and Henry enjoyed golfing, tennis, camping, fishing and boating. Henry named the boat “Fancy Nancy.” They truly enjoyed their long life and time together. They were both avid sports fans, of football, basketball, and even Baseball. Nancy even created a football parlay for family and friends to participate in during the football parties. The Cleveland Browns were the favorite back then.
In 2007, due to Nancy’s health issues, they decided to move to Richardson, Texas to be closer to their daughters. After relocating they embraced their new surroundings, shared a beautiful apartment and life in Richardson, Texas. They traveled with family to California, New Orleans, and other destinations. They also made regular solo road trips to Houston, TX.
Nancy was preceded in death by her parents, Flora and Claude Rice and sister Claudine Jones. She is survived by her devoted husband, Henry W. Clark, of 74 years, daughters, Charlotte (Robert), Linda (Len), Stephanie (James) and son, Henry W. Clark, Jr (affectionately known as Guy); Eight Grandchildren and Twelve great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
