Nancy Mann Clyce's Obituary
Nancy Mann Clyce, 72, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday August 21, 2021.
Nancy was born on December 10, 1948 in Dallas, Texas to John and Annette Mann. She grew up in a large family where she was the third of four children. Nancy cherished her childhood in Oak Cliff and the lifelong friendships she made. After graduating from Kimball High School, Nancy married her high school sweetheart Wally Clyce in 1969. They started a family and had three sons, Casey, Jeremy and Andy.
As their small family grew, they decided to move to The Park Cities where they immediately immersed themselves in the community. Nancy’s life revolved around her family and friends. She was active in the PTA, volunteering her time whenever needed at Armstrong Elementary, McCulloch Middle School and Highland Park High School. She loved being the Room Mom to all her sons’ classes, volunteering in multiple school lunchrooms, hosting Highland Park Sports Club events and taking on all the responsibilities of being a Captain's Mom of the varsity football team.
When you look up the word Mom or Grandma in the dictionary, we think it’s safe to say a picture of Nancy would summarize the definition. She was the rock of the family and flourished at every aspect of being a Mom and Grandma. She was selfless, loving, supportive, loyal and genuine. She was not only a Mom to her three boys, but a “Second Mom” to all their friends. The door to her home was always open to the neighborhood children, her boys’ friends, her friends and extended family. This open- door policy led to countless lifelong friendships and never-ending happy memories of growing up in Nancy’s home that was known as “Wally World.” She was Uber before Uber was cool. Nancy was continuously shuffling her children and their friends to and from school, practices, games, birthday parties, playdates and sleepovers. She was the Mom that always had a fully stocked refrigerator and pantry for her boys and their friends. Her cooking was so good that many times the boys’ friends decided to stay for dinner rather than go home, and they were always welcome.
As a grandmother (Grandma) (Grancy) (Mima) she was like no other. She loved her grandkids with all her heart and supported any and every aspect of their lives. Grandma’s house was always a happy place where kids could be kids. She cherished sleepovers with “moon” walks around the neighborhood, taking the kids to the movies, teaching them to cook, playing in the Christmas City, backyard fun on the trampoline and playset, celebrating birthdays, giving gifts, attending their school and sporting events while cheering loudly from the stands (most of the time with her cowbell). Her grandkids came first and she always gave them what they needed the most… Her time.
Nancy thrived at hosting parties and holiday events. She was the absolute best hostess and never missed a detail or a chance to throw a party. She celebrated and decorated every holiday to the fullest and was always the life of the party. Along with having a home full of children and friends at all times, she was also the best Mom and Grandma to all the Clyce dogs through the years. Her love of animals is a trait that has been passed down to her children and grandchildren.
Traveling with family and friends is what made her the happiest. Sitting on a beach listening to the crashing waves while soaking in the sun was her peaceful happy place. Some of her favorite places to visit were beaches in Costa Rica, Jamaica, Mexico, South Padre Island and Galveston.
Throughout their marriage of 52 years, Nancy and Wally built an incredible life together. Their enduring love and love of family is the legacy that they pass on to their sons and families. Nancy was always there to support and celebrate victories both large and small and now we get to celebrate her incredible life. The world lost a beautiful soul, but we know she is free of all pain and will be watching over every life she touched for eternity.
