Nancy Griggs' Obituary
RIGGS, Nancy Nancy Wilson Griggs was born on July 1, 1924 in Delaware County, OK to Fred and Henrietta Wilson, and passed away January 2, 2018 in Dallas, TX. She is survived by her brother, Lyle Wilson of Claremore, OK and her son Scotty in Denton, TX. She was preceded in death by her husband, John and her sister, Lillian Kidwell. Nancy attended SMU and was founder and first president of the Law Students Wives Association. She worked at the Melrose Hotel for 18 years and returned to SMU to become Secretary and Treasurer of the foundation and assistant director of the Assemblies for Bank Directors. In this capacity she traveled extensively helping conduct educational schools for members of the Bank Board in the United States, Mexico, Canada and Europe. During her time at SMU she wrote a book titled “The Southwestern Graduate school of Banking–A History”. She retired in 1989. Nancy met her husband, John Dixon at his birthday party. John had just returned from service in WWII in the Pacific as a Marine. They married a year later. They both attended SMU where John got his law degree. John passed away on Nancy’s birthday in 2006 after sixty years of marriage. Visitation will be held on Sunday, January 7, 2018 from 3:00-5:00 PM at Restland Funeral Home. Services will be held at 3:00 PM on Monday, January 8, 2018 at Restland’s Wildwood Chapel. Nancy was a long time member of Valley View Christian Church, Dallas TX. Memorials may be made to the Volunteer Services Council, Denton State School, P.O. Box 368, Denton, Texas 76202 where Nancy’s son is a resident.
