Nancy G Porter's Obituary
Born December 30, 1930 in Badin, NC, Nancy passed away peacefully with her family by her side in the early morning hours on April 23, 2016. She was preceded in death by her parents, James Arnold Gayle and Notie Beck Gayle Sellers; her second husband, Wesley Albert Porter, her son, Stephen Lee Raines and her sister, Betty Lou Gayle Crapps. A devoted wife and mother, Nancy was an active member of First United Methodist Church of Dallas since 1962. Her unconditional love to all of her children, commitment to family; loyalty to friends and kindness to animals (especially dogs) were just a few of the characteristics that made this incredible woman so special. Nancy returned to school in her forties and obtained both her undergraduate and graduate degrees (cum laude) by 1985 while working and raising a family. She served the church in many capacities from teaching the Church Belles Sunday School Class and chairing various committees. Her relationship with Christ gave her great strength throughout her entire life. Nancy will be greatly missed by all for her intellect, quick wit, her love and compassion and her sparkling blue eyes and contagious smile. Nancy is survived by her husband Nathan; her children David Gonzales (Jane); Randall Porter, James H. Raines, Gayle Raines (Karen); David Raines (Rhonda); and Deanna Stone. Also surviving Nancy are her sister, Shirley Gayle Gibson, six grandchildren, fourteen great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. A Celebration of Nancy’s Life will be held Saturday, May 7th at 3:00 pm at First United Methodist Church, 1928 Ross Avenue, Dallas, Texas 75201. In lieu of flowers, charitable contributions in memory of Nancy may be made to the FirstFoundation fund of First United Methodist Church of Dallas.
