Nancy Kay Smith's Obituary
Nancy Kay Smith, 84, of Van Alstyne, TX, passed away on January 2, 2024. Born on March 14, 1939, in McKinney, TX, Nancy was a loving and caring individual with a strong Christian spirit. She adored her large extended family and cherished the time spent with them during family events and individual accomplishments. Nancy's three grandchildren held a special place in her heart, and she was always their biggest supporter. Nancy had an unyielding passion for her Christian faith and was a devoted member of First Baptist Church of Richardson. She deeply loved her church and its members, and her bright light will be greatly missed by all who knew her. In addition to her dedication to her family and faith, Nancy spent her career raising her two children, Scott Smith and Hali Millson. Her children are forever grateful for the love and care she provided. Nancy also devoted her time to supporting her family and volunteering endlessly for her church, alongside her close friends. Beyond her family and faith, Nancy had a few hidden talents. She could type over 100 words per minute on a manual typewriter and could recite all of the books of the Bible in less than a minute. Despite her petite stature of only 5 ft. tall, Nancy kept everyone in line with her effective technique of kicking them in the shins with her hard-soled shoes.
Nancy enjoyed several hobbies throughout her life, including singing in the church choir and ensembles, golfing, swimming, visiting the beach in Galveston, traveling, and of course, shopping! Nancy is survived by her loving husband, Cecil E Smith Jr., her children Scott Smith and Hali Millson, and her grandchildren Krista Smith, Kayla Carter, and Smith Millson. She is also survived by her sister, Patsy Beene, and nieces and nephews Mike, Kelly, Amy, Jeff, Angie, and Jason. Nancy was preceded in death by her parents, L.D. Paterson and Juanita Patterson, her sister Judy McBride, and her nephew Patrick McBride. An informal viewing is planned for Thursday, January 11th, from noon to 2:00 pm at Restland Funeral Home on Greenville Avenue. The address is 13005 Greenville Avenue, Dallas, TX 75243. Mom you will be deeply missed by your family, friends, and all those whose lives you touched. Your loving and caring nature, along with unwavering Christian faith, will be remembered and cherished by all who knew you.
