Nancy McBride Stewart's Obituary
Nancy McBride Stewart, mother of Elizabeth and Sarah, mother-in-law to Jeff, and youngest of the six children of Kathleen and James George McBride, passed away peacefully at her home on July 9, 2018. She joins her sisters Marilyn and Kathy and her brothers James, Charles, and John, who preceded her in death. Nancy’s family and faith were the center of her life. She was a great family historian with an amazing memory. Nancy was a dynamic woman blessed with artistic talent that she expressed through painting and drawing. She attended the University of Kansas, held a Bachelor of Arts degree from Wichita State University and was a member of Chi Omega. She had a deep appreciation and knowledge of music, art, history, and literature, and frequented concerts and the theater. Nancy played the piano and organ and studied anatomy and live drawing to enhance her artistic skills. She looked forward to the Shakespeare Festival each year and enjoyed classical music and opera. During her daughters’ youth, Nancy enjoyed cooking, gardening, tennis, and volunteering. Roses, azaleas and gardenias were highlights of her gardens. Among her many volunteer pursuits, she gave art history presentations to the students at the local elementary school and was a Girl Scout leader. She taught English as a Second Language and supported literacy efforts and public radio and television. Like her sisters and brothers, she always enjoyed a game of bridge or cribbage. Nancy’s family will honor her life at a private memorial service and inurnment. We will always remember her when we see the colors of the sunset, which she observed and painted so beautifully.
