Nancy Jane Walton Norwood Born November 28, 1956 to Lloyd Amanuel Walton and Mary Louise Lancaster Walton in Jonesboro, Arkansas. Grandparents are Levi and Nancy Etter Walton and Thurman and Ressie Jane Lancaster. Her parents were married in 1950; the family moved to Mesquite, Texas in 1958. Nancy attended North Mesquite High School. She was the very first National Merit Scholar to graduate from North Mesquite High School, and she was Co-Captain of the Drill Team; during these years, she also spent time as a model for Neiman Marcus. Previously, she attended Motley Ele School, Florence Elen School, Vanston Junior High School. An extremely bright young woman, Nancy attended Southern Methodist University in the Honors Program. She graduated with Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Science degrees, Summa Cum Laude, in 1977. Nancy attended the University of Texas Law School in Austin and received her JD degree. After graduating in 1981, she worked as Assistant State Attorney for the Tax Division of the Texas Attorney General in Austin, Texas. On September 18, 1982, she married Don Scott Norwood in Austin, whom she met while attending the University of Texas. Her daughter, Katie Marie Norwood, was born on December 19, 1988 at Seton Hospital in Austin. Nancy continued to work for the Texas Attorney General part-time. She enjoyed a 10-year career in which her achievements were lauded. Her son, Sam Walton Norwood, was born on January 1, 1997 in Austin. Nancy was a devoted mother to both of her children, inspiring them to follow their passions, to pursue education, and instilling a strong sense of ethics. Above all, she taught them to have loving hearts and compassion for others. In 2015, Nancy moved to Dallas, Texas to be closer to her daughter and mother. Nancy was an active member of Mensa. She enjoyed reading, philosophy, poetry, and dancing. She passed away on Sunday, January 20, 2019 at Baylor Scott & White Hospital at the age of 62.Nancy is survived by her mother, Mary Louise Walton, and her two children, Katie Marie Norwood and Sam Walton Norwood. Nancy is survived as well by her cousin Mike Lancaster, his wife Christine Berry and their son Austin; her cousin Pat Lancaster and his wife Jo and their sons, Danny and Dwen; her Aunt Sherbie Lancaster in Sumpter, South Carolina, and her cousin Ken Lancaster and his wife Diane; her cousin Bob Lancaster and his wife Pam; and her cousins Monda Walton Hutchinson and Rita Walton Venable and their families. The visitation for Nancy will be from 6:00 to 8:00 PM on Friday, January 25, 2019 at Restland Funeral Home. A graveside service will be help at 1:00 PM on Saturday, January 26, 2019 in The Garden of The Holy Trinity at Restland Cemetery.
