Natalie Darwin's Obituary
Natalie Murdoch Darwin passed away peacefully at her home on April 11th, 2015 after a very long and joyous life. She was well educated and received degrees from University of New Mexico, Boston University (Master’s in Education) and Stanford University (Master’s in Physical Therapy). Natalie was trained by the Army as a physical therapist to work with World War II veterans. She achieved the rank of 1st Lieutenant then left the service to help polio victims in Tulsa, OK where she met her husband, Bill. The two moved to Garland in the early 1950s where they started their family. She later opened her own PT practice in Dallas. Natalie and her family were always very active in their church home at FPC Garland. Natalie served her church as an elder, choir member, VBS volunteer, Meals on Wheels coordinator and church office volunteer. She also participated in Women’s Circle, Sunday School, Bible Study, and Senior Saints. Natalie was very enthusiastic about life and enjoyed new adventures well into her late 90s, for example, flying in a single engine prop plane at the age of 96. She is preceded in death by her parents, Herbert and Olga Murdoch; husband, William (Bill) Darwin; brothers, H.S. and Samuel Murdoch; and her sister Elizabeth (Betty) Snider. Natalie is survived by her 2 daughters: Nancy Griffin and husband Marty of Albuquerque, NM; Mary Snyder and husband Brian of Dallas, TX; granddaughters Dana and Karie Snyder; nieces and nephews, Beth McDade, Susan Newfield, Lynn Labor, Angela Bailey, Judith Darwin, Pat Murdoch, Rick Murdoch, and Clark Nail. A visitation will take place Thursday April 16th from 6 to 8 PM at Restland Funeral Home. The family will receive friends during a reception at First Presbyterian Church of Garland at 12:30 PM and service to celebrate the life of Natalie at 2PM. Graveside to follow.
