Nathan Raymond Strachan's Obituary
Nathan Raymond Strachan passed away peacefully at the age of 90 in Plano, Texas surrounded by his family, on November 20th 2017. He was born November 10, 1927 in Akron, Ohio to Alex and Bella Strachan, the youngest of three siblings. After serving in the Navy during WWII, he began his professional career as a salesman in the plastics business leading him to become one of the founders of The E. Helman Company, a leading provider of plastics raw materials within the industry.In 1971, the entire family emigrated to Israel before returning to the US about two years later at which time he became an ardent orchid grower and hobbyist. After relocating from Florida to Texas, he came out of retirement in 1979 and founded Strachan Orchids and Strachan/DFW Wholesale Florists with his sons and soon became one of the prominent floral wholesalers in the Dallas area which he continued until his 90th birthday.Nathan was an avid supporter of most all military, veteran, police and Masonic Grand Lodge of Ohio activities. He was also a numismatist and a longstanding member of the Israel Philatelic Society.Preceded in death by his cherished wife of 64 years, Thelma, he is survived by his beloved children and family: Stephen Strachan, Amy and Marc Ward, Ellen and Jeff Starr, and Joel Strachan, six grandchildren: Rachel, Abby, Jesse, Sam, Jacob, and Aaron, and three great grandchildren: Gabby, Saul, and Talia.In lieu of flowers, please direct any donations to the Wounded Warrior Project (www.woundedwarriorproject.org).
