Nelda Ruth Marlar's Obituary
Nelda Ruth Floyd Marlar was born in Milton, Texas on the first day of spring March 20th, 1937 and passed away on December 31st, 2018 after a long and valiant battle with cancer.Nelda spent her earliest years in Milton until the outbreak of World War II. The family moved to Dallas, Texas where they remained. Nelda attended school in Dallas. She graduated from Forest Avenue High School in 1954 with Honors. Nelda met the love of her life in 1955. She married Ben Jack Marlar on March 1st, 1956 while he was in the United States Army.Nelda was a stay at home mom until all of her daughters were in school. She worked part-time at Eastfield College so that she could to be there for her girls as well as attend school there. Nelda graduated from the University of Texas – Dallas in 1979 with a Bachelors degree in Special Education and English. She received her Master’s of Science in Guidance and Counseling from East Texas State University. Nelda worked 29 years for Dallas Independent School District. She taught English for eight years at Lincoln High School and then went onto to Hexter Elementary School as their counselor until her retirement.Nelda has numerous hobbies and interest. She had a deep love for animals especially cats and panda bears. Nelda was creative. She could sew and do embroidery. She enjoyed playing Mahjong with her friends and her participation book clubs. Family gatherings and birthdays were important events to her especially her grandchildren. Nelda’s greatest love was traveling especially with Ben. She saw the world with him and with their daughters.Nelda Marlar is preceded in death by Ben Marlar, beloved husband of 58 years; parents Luther and Velma Floyd. She is survived by daughters and son-in-laws Belinda and William Satchell of Allen, Texas, Terri and Rick Bates of Heath, Texas, and Jill and Brian Casstevens of Allen, Texas, Five grandchildren Joshua Satchell of Lubbock, TX, Katy Bates of Heath, TX; Kevin Bates of Mesquite, TX, Allison and Joe Randolph of Denver, Colorado, and Melissa and Brandon Rivera of Denton, TX, sister Melba Prince, niece Deborah Prince , nephew Dennis and Florence Prince, numerous friends and Miss Kitty.The family will receive friends and family on Sunday, January 6th, 2019 from 9:00 am until 9:55 am at Restland Funeral Home – Memorial Chapel. Services will be held on January 6th, 2019 at 10:00 am also at the Memorial Chapel.In Lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the SPCA.
