Nell Bertram (Coad) Reynolds' Obituary
REYNOLDS, NELL BERTRAM (COAD) – Born August 27, 1921 to Mary Ogden Sugg Coad and Dr. Bert Raymond Coad in Tallulah, Louisiana, and departed this life on February 15, 2012. She married John F. (Jack) Reynolds on November 24, 1950 in Tallulah and they moved immediately to Dallas where they remained for 61 years. Nell loved to cook more than anything. She learned the art of cooking at her mother’s knee, where she also learned to care for others by tending to their needs, delivering tempting dishes to those who were recuperating from illness or suffering a loss. All who knew her enjoyed and appreciated her wonderful meals and treats from her oven. She was also a talented seamstress who used her gifts to create most of her daughter’s clothing, precious baby blankets for friends, and countless items for church bazaars. Flowers were another love, and she began arranging for church and for friends while still in high school, continuing for the altar at St. James Episcopal Church in Dallas. Nell also joined the Altar Guild in her home parish in Tallulah. She continued at St. James, serving as directress for many years and training generations of devoted members there. In her quiet way, Nell spread beauty and joy wherever she went. Mrs. Reynolds is survived by her husband, John F. (Jack) Reynolds, daughter Nancy Reynolds Bratteli and husband Niel, grandsons John Oniel Bratteli and Paul Allen Bratteli, a sister, Carolyn Coad Rich, nieces and nephews Jane Rich Smith, Charles Rich, Ann Coad Harris, Steve Coad,, Turner Coad, Mike Barbour, Betsy Reynolds Zachry, and Rick Reynolds. She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Stanley Coad and Hunter Coad, and nieces Carol Rich Baker and Cindy Barbour. The funeral will be held at St. James Episcopal Church on Saturday, February 25 at 12:00 noon, with the Rev. Clifton Gardner officiating. Her ashes will be interred in the Columbarium at St. James. A reception celebrating Mrs. Reynolds’ life will follow in the Parish Hall of St. James. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Altar Guild of St. James Episcopal Church, 9845 McCree Rd. Dallas, TX 75238.
