Nellie Bernice Hennig Miller, age 90, passed away peacefully in her sleep at her home in Carrollton, Texas, on June 26, 2026. She leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, resilience, and family devotion that will continue to shine through the many lives she touched.
Nellie was born on January 25, 1936, in Rowlett, Texas, to Joseph and Evelyn Russell Hennig. Growing up on a farm, she learned early the value of hard work, perseverance, and appreciating what you have. Those lessons stayed with her throughout her life and became part of the foundation on which she raised her family.
On July 16, 1955, she married Charles Edward Miller. In joining their lives, Nellie welcomed Charles's children, Michael Edward Miller and Nita Ann Steele, into her life, and together she and Charles later welcomed Brenda Nell Sechrest, Vicki Jo Trice, and Matt Lee Miller. Together, they shared many happy years as a family before Charles's passing on December 11, 1972. Through life's joys and challenges, Nellie demonstrated remarkable strength, determination, and an unwavering commitment to those she loved.
Known affectionately as "Mother," "Granny," and "Great Granny," Nellie was the heart of many family gatherings and celebrations. One of the ways she showed her love was through her cooking. Family members eagerly looked forward to holidays, when her homemade dumplings and gravy became a treasured tradition and a meal that no one could quite replicate. The kitchen was often a place where stories were shared, laughter filled the room, and memories were made.
Nellie had a wonderful sense of humor and was never afraid to let her playful, sassy side shine through. She had a knack for making people laugh, whether with a quick comeback, a teasing comment, or a funny story told at just the right moment. Her laughter was contagious, and time spent with her was rarely without a smile. Beneath that spirited personality was a woman with a generous heart who was always willing to help when someone needed her. She was a steadfast source of love, support, encouragement, and strength for her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
She enjoyed life's simple pleasures, including working puzzles, spending time at the beach, and cheering on her beloved Texas Rangers. Music was another joy in her life, and she especially loved listening to George Strait, Loretta Lynn, and many of the country legends whose songs provided the soundtrack to countless memories.
Nellie was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Edward Miller; her parents, Joseph and Evelyn Hennig; her sisters, Mary Evans and Opal (Patsy) Welk; and half-brothers, George, Jimmy, and Vic Hennig.
She is lovingly survived by Michael Edward Miller, Nita Ann Steele, Brenda Nell Sechrest, Vicki Jo Trice, and Matt Lee Miller; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and numerous extended family members and dear friends who will forever cherish her memory.
A visitation will be held on Monday, July 6, 2026, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Restland Funeral Home on Greenville Avenue. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, July 7, 2026, at 10:30 a.m. at Restland.
Following the service, family and friends are invited to gather at the Sechrest farm in Celina for a celebration of Nellie's life. Together, they will enjoy good food and drink, share stories, and celebrate a woman whose kindness, humor, and love left a lasting mark on everyone fortunate enough to know her.
Though Nellie is no longer with us in body, her spirit lives on in the laughter she inspired, the traditions she created, the family she loved so dearly, and the countless memories that will be treasured for generations to come.
