Nellie Mae Thompson's Obituary
Nellie Mae Lineberger Thompson was born to Joe Lineberger and Blanche Smith in Baltimore, MD on July 2, 1932. Her older brother Joseph (d), older sister Dorothea (d) and younger brother Theodore were raised to value education, excellence and integrity above all else. She met her husband, Dr. Frank William Thompson while attending Morgan State University. She graduated Summa Cum Laude and went onto to earn her MBA from Clarke Atlanta University. Frank and Nellie Thompson moved to Dallas, Texas in 1965 where they raised four children: Errington, Melissa, Michele and Frank II. She helped her husband build a thriving medical practice, saw all four of her children attain college degrees and remained active in Jack and Jill. Throughout her fulfilling life, Nellie worked as a college professor, a bank founder, a Sunday school teacher and retired from the State of Texas after 20 years of service as a Supervising Tax Auditor for the Texas Workforce Commission. Nellie was a steadfast member and supporter at Hamilton Park United Methodist Church for over 45 years. She was a lay leader, teacher and board member. She taught the Mature Adult Sunday School class for more than 15 years. In addition to being a faithful servant of God, loving wife, mother, sister, friend, and grandmother; Nellie was a 50+ year member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc and an avid bridge player. She was a founding member of a bridge group that played together for over 40 years. She also played at the Plano Senior Center and Liberty Recreation Center regularly. Of her many achievements and accomplishments, Nellie was proudest of her family. She was a doting aunt to Theo, Velinda, Trystan, Frank, Oliver, Sheryl, Christina and so many more. Her grandchildren: Brenton, Brooke, Brianna, Frank III and Errington II were her pride and joy. Nellie passed away after a battle with pancreatic cancer on December 18, 2015. There will be a casual viewing service at Restland Funeral Home on Thursday, December 24th from 2 – 4 PM. Service will be held at Hamilton Park United Methodist Church at 11881 Schroeder Rd, Dallas, Texas 75243 on Saturday, December 26th at 10:00 AM. As one of her favorite authors once wrote, “I’ve learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel.” Nellie left behind more than great memories and feelings, she left a legacy.
