Nema Hollingsworth's Obituary
Nema Burks Hollingsworth of Garland, Texas passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 15, 2018. She was born on September 13, 1929, to her parents, Eddie and Sada Burks in Blytheville, Arkansas. She loved her hometown and shared many adventures with her sister, Peggy and her brother, Patrick. Later, she was a 1947 graduate of Blytheville High School where she was very active, serving as a cheerleader and involved in many other programs. Perhaps the most important event at B.H.S. was her encounter with her future husband of 67 years, John P. Hollingsworth. They met in 7th-period study hall and the story began. After graduation, she attended Arkansas State College and was a member of the Alpha Omicron Pi sorority.After John returned from serving in The United States Navy, the courtship was resumed and she said “Yes”!… marrying John on April 7, 1951. After beginning a family, she served with DISD as a data process operator from 1969-1992. She was an active and supportive member of The First United Methodist Church of Mesquite for over 50 years, where she will be sorely missed.Nema is survived by her husband and soulmate, John Hollingsworth. She is also survived by her devoted children, Patricia Hollingsworth Ankrum (Bob) of Mesquite, Al Hollingsworth (Shelley) of Colleyville and John Hollingsworth Jr. (Lisa) of Frisco. She was an adoring and very involved grandmother to six grandchildren, Christopher, Shane (Charlotte), Chance, Brooke, John III (Catherine) and Cole, In addition, there are two greatgrandchildren, Tristin and Savannah. She was preceded in death her brother, Patrick R. Burks. Her dear sister, Peggy Warrington…Followed her in death just a few hours later in Arkansas.Services for Nema (“Gran”) will be held at First United Methodist Church of Mesquite on Galloway on Monday, February 19. Viewing will be at 10 a.m. followed by a church service and memorial at 11 a.m. Graveside service will be at 1 p.m. at Restland.
