Neoma Elene Scott Steele's Obituary
Neoma Elene Scott Steele passed away peacefully on October 15, 2021 at the age of 97. Elene was born March 1, 1924 on a farm near Kalgary, Texas. She was the youngest of four children and the only girl of Oly Franklin Scott and Rebecca Evaline “Evie” Hightower Scott. Her mother passed away when Elene was just 13, which greatly impacted Elene’s life. While attending Crosbyton High School, Elene was honored as their FFA Sweetheart. After graduating high school, although with limited funds, she continued her quest for knowledge and put herself through one year of college at Texas Tech.
She always had a strong desire to move to the big city and, with three girlfriends in tow, they found their way to Dallas. Her first job in Dallas was in the head office at Neiman Marcus and then with the Army Corps of Engineers. A chance meeting and a whirlwind romance led Elene to marry Lendell Earl “Jack” Steele just six weeks later, on June 23, 1945. Jack passed away in 2006 two months shy of their 61st wedding anniversary.
Elene always thought the perfect family would be two boys and two girls, with the two boys being the oldest, and she got her wish. She devoted her life to raising her four children. Her love of music was passed on to her children as well.
Elene maintained excellent health living independently until she was 93. Left to honor her memory are her four children and their spouses, including: Bruce (Vickie), Richard (Glynne), Brenda (Denise) and Diane (Beth), as well as Five grandchildren, ¬¬nine great grandchildren and a host of cousins, nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to thank Sonya Garcia with VITAS Healthcare and the staff of Sunrise of Hillcrest (with a special thanks to Adrine Njeri & Isha Gautama) for their loving care in her final years.
Visitation will held be on Thursday, Oct 21 from 4-6pm, and Funeral Services will be held in the Abbey Chapel on Friday, Oct 22 at 2pm, both at Restland Funeral Home, 13005 Greenville Ave., Dallas, TX 75243.
