Neva Marie Metters' Obituary
Neva Marie Metters was born on May 20, 1922 on a farm near Hancock, Iowa to Mervin and Rena (Holt) Martin. She was baptized and confirmed at Hancock United Methodist Church and later married the love of her life in the same church. She attended country school at Valley No. 5 and graduated from Hancock High School. After graduating from Simpson University this adventures farm girl took a train for southern California and worked at the hospital in San Bernardino as a lab tech.She met Edward William Metters when he was on his way home from WWII. She had a ring on her finger in ten days and they were married in 1946. Starting their life together on the farm in Iowa. They had two children, Sheryl Ann and Edward Lynn.In 1950 the family moved to Lakewood, California.They spent time traveling the U.S. visiting and camping in all the national parks west of the Mississippi. In 1965 they moved to Dallas, Texas and also had a house on Lake Texhoma. With both children in college, Neva and Ed took time traveling and exploring several countries.Neva was known for her strong faith, her love of family and her sweet and sometimes surprising sense of humor. She loved to entertain and holidays were her specialties. She also did a lot of volunteer work. She held offices with her church, Eastern Star and was the queen mom of her Red Hat club. Neva also was a very talented artist and she took her inspiration from the glory of nature.Neva was preceded in death by her parents and her loving husband, Edward William Metters, Jr. of 66 years; son, Edward Lynn Metters of Dallas; three brothers, James, Kenneth and Dean Martin all of Iowa and a son-in-law, A. Eugene Gaddy of Dallas. She is survived by daughter, Sheryl Ann Gaddy of Dallas and Florida, Daughter-in-law, Karen Brown Metters of Florida; surviving grandchildren include, Derek , Shane, Recer and wife, Denese, children, Peyton and Preston of Florida, Jodi Noell and her husband, Hayes, daughters, Emma and Morgan of Florida, Carlinda Stephens and her husband, Chad, son, Cade of Florida, Wendi Markley and her husband, Tom, Taylor and Devin of Connecticut, Scot Metters and his wife, Stephanie, sons, Ryan and Andrew of Pennsylvania; sister, Twyla Martikn of Iowa.Memorial services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, June 19, 2019 in the Restland Funeral Home Wildwood Chapel, 13005 Greenville Ave., Dallas, Tx. 75242. Reception to follow the services at the Restland event center.
