Neva Lou (Smith) Groome's Obituary
Neva Lou (Smith) Groome, age 97, passed away on Monday, October 24, 2022, in Tomball, Texas. She was born to Mr. Willie Smith and Ms. Grace Smith(both deceased) on March 9, 1925, in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Neva leaves her loved ones with unforgettable memories and loving stories. She will be sincerely missed by her loving family, devoted friends, and all the wonderful individuals who knew and loved her.
Neva grew up in Brookhaven, Mississippi. In December of 1947 Neva married Eugene Joseph Groome, Jr. in Nashville, Tennessee. They had 2 children a son Arthur Groome of Heath, Texas and a daughter Carla Richburg of Cypress, Texas. She graduated High School at Loyd Star in Brookhaven, Mississippi and attended college at All Saints College in Vicksburg, Mississippi and finished her certification in dept of Civil Engineering/Drafting at Western Kentucky State University in Bowling Green, Kentucky untl Neva and Eugene started their family. She was employed as a draftsman with United States Army Corp of Engineers and Tennessee Department of Highways in Nashville, TN.
She is a member of the Church of Christ and for 25 years she taught Bible classes from Kindergarden through 6th grade and special classes at Christian Care Center in Dallas, TX. She also led Ladies Bible Class at her senior living residence in Mesquite, Texas. Neva came to Mesquite Church of Christ in 1988 following the death of her husband and remained a member until her death.
Three brothers and Three sisters precede Neva in death; Maurice Smith, Robert Smith, Conrad Smith, Arva Smith, Elaine Proudy and Betty Jo Allen, all of Mississippi and many nieces and nephews.
Neva is survived by her son and daughter as well as one grandson Brandon Groome, four granddaughters Shanna Hull, Teresa Wolkenfeld, Gina Welch and Jesse Richburg. Neva leaves 13 great grandchildren.
Visitation for Neva Lou (Smith) Groome will be held Wednesday, November 2, 2022 from 9:00 AM to 10:45 AM at Church of Christ. A Service will be Wednesday, November 2, 2022 at 11:00 AM at Church of Christ Mesquite, TX. 400 West Davis Mesquite, Texas 75149
