Nicholas Korba's Obituary
Nicholas Korba, 89, passed away peacefully on January 3, 2016 in Austin, TX. He was born on February 7, 1926 in Binghamton, NY, the youngest of five children. Nick was a first generation American whose parents immigrated from Czechoslovakia in the early 1900s. Immediately after high school, Nick enlisted as an Apprentice Seaman with the US Navy. He served during WWII on the USS Honolulu, and was on his way to the Pacific via the Panama Canal when the war ended and his ship was recalled. After being honorably discharged from the Navy in December 1946, Nick went to school to study electronics and then moved to Chicago, IL where he met a beautiful girl from Pineville, LA named Charlotte Newman. They fell in love and married in March 1950. The young couple later moved to Dallas, TX where Nick worked for Collins Radio (which was later acquired by Rockwell International) for 35 years and retired in 1986. Nick loved being retired, and spent his time fixing things, helping people, and spending time with friends at the Addison airport and the Farmers Branch Senior Center. Nick is preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Charlotte; parents, Nicholas and Mary Korba; sisters, Anne Lewis, Helen Holovka, and Marge Hurley; and brother, John Korba. Left behind to celebrate his life are his children, daughter Valerie Korba and partner Patrick Helton; son Bret Korba and wife Jennifer, their children, Drew and Emily Korba; son Mark Korba and wife Jennifer; sisters-in-law Carin Korba (John’s wife) and Louise Hunt (Charlotte’s sister); niece Paula Hunt and husband Detlef Schuermanns; and many nieces, nephews, other family members, and friends throughout the US. The Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, January 30, 2016 at 3 PM at The Abbey Chapel at Restland Funeral Home.
