Nicole Renee Thompson's Obituary
Nicole Renee Thompson passed away on Thursday, September 28, 2023, surrounded by the many friends and family members whose lives have been forever enriched by her love. On January 30 of this year, Nicole suffered a traumatic injury and, in the following months, showed great strength and courage, often surpassing the expectations of medical staff and always aided by the indomitable love and support of her parents, Lisa and Greg Thompson. This week, just two days after Nicole’s 29th birthday, her long fight came to a peaceful end at UT Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas, Texas.
The service will be held at Restland Funeral Home at 13005 Greenville Avenue, Dallas, at 2pm on Tuesday, October 3, with a reception immediately following the service. The family will be receiving visitors at Restland from 6-8pm on Monday, October 2.
Nicole was born in Plano, Texas, on September 26, 1994. Though an only child, she felt like a little sister to the many cousins on both sides of her family who adored this bright, clever, bold little girl. She graduated from Plano West Senior High School in 2013 and went on to receive a Bachelor of Arts at the University of Oklahoma in May 2017, focusing her studies on Communication, Psychology and International Studies, a few of the many areas in which Nicole showed her deep passion and intellect. Nicole loved her life as an OU Sooner, joining the Delta Gamma-Alpha Iota Chapter, where she made friendships that she would cherish for all her days.
After receiving her degree, Nicole went on to work in account management for Dell, Pearson Partners, and Wondr Health before spending several years as a wholesale representative at Butch Plott & Company, a high-end women’s apparel showroom that was the perfect job for this lifelong fashion aficionado.
Nicole was adventurous, particularly in her approach to travel. She loved to try new things in new places: surfing in Hawaii, skiing in Colorado, parachuting in Italy, feeding elephants in Thailand. In Spring 2016, Nicole served on the OU Student Activity council during a semester abroad in Arezzo, Italy, where she also worked with the Department of Education and Social Politics for Childhood Services. She enjoyed dressing up in elaborate costumes for silly theme parties, and she was a fierce lover of animals, or as she called them, “critters,” most especially her two beloved Dachshunds, Wally and Louie. Nicole had a compassionate heart and a fighting spirit, never afraid to stand up or march for what she believed in, and she was a dedicated advocate for mental health resources and education. She was committed to a life of service, often participating in campaigns to fundraise for important organizations like Attitudes & Attire and Vibrant Emotional Health.
Nicole is survived by her parents, who were also her best friends, Lisa and Greg Thompson. She is further survived by her grandparents Gene and Mary Thompson, her aunts and uncles Sheila and Alton Brown, Karen and Charlie Gracey, Elizabeth and Kevin Grant, Phyllis and Don Roundtree, and Portia and Jim Thompson, as well as by an army of cousins on both sides of the family who loved Nicole with all of their hearts.
The family will be forever thankful for the great gift of Shelley Chaya, who brought Nicole such comfort and care in her final months.
Nicole was preceded in death by her beloved Nanny Jewel Brown, grandfather Alton Brown and dear family friend George Carr.
