As the last of her generation in our extended family group, Tante Nienke held a special place in our shared history. Though I wasn’t present in her later years, I remember her warmly from our family gatherings. Her obituary showed just how much strength and resilience shaped her long life.

Tante Nienke was an important part of my childhood in Texas, part of our extended Dutch family, and she often hosted my family at her home. Although we had lost touch other than a very occasional facebook message, I remember her very fondly, and it was lovely to read about her life; a lot of the details were new to me, what an amazing woman she was!
